Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 is a pre-release update for supported Pixel phones and Pixel Tablet devices. Google announced it on October 2, 2026, with fixes spanning audio, camera, connectivity, battery life and telephony. Enrolling delivers the beta over the air, but installing it can make leaving the program without a data wipe impossible.
What Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 is
QPR3 Beta 1 is an early test build in the Android 17 quarterly platform release track, not a stable public update. Google’s Android Beta Program announcement dated October 2, 2026, lists build DP11.260918.005 for Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, and DP11.260918.006 for the other supported devices. Google’s announcement describes a collection of fixes rather than publishing benchmark results or adoption figures.

Which Pixel devices are eligible
Google lists Pixel 6a and newer supported phones, along with Pixel Tablet series devices. The eligible phone models are:
- Pixel 6a
- Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7a
- Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8a
- Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9a
- Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Pixel 10a
- Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold
Pixel Tablet series devices are also included. The announcement does not specify individual tablet model names.

What the beta fixes
The release notes group improvements across everyday system functions and hardware compatibility. The named fixes include:
- Audio: Switching audio output while media is playing; Bluetooth playback stopping when using LHDC v5.
- Camera and display: A front-camera failure during screen recording; incorrect 90-degree camera rotation during video calls on an external display in desktop mode.
- Interface: A home-screen navigation UI issue and an unexpected mobile-data dot in Quick Settings.
- Calls and cellular service: Call-service crashes after reboot; loss of cellular service after modem SIM-slot errors.
- eSIM: Profiles unexpectedly reverting to off.
- Battery and Settings: Idle battery drain associated with Flip to Shh and crashes on the Settings battery page.
- Wi-Fi: Failures to reconnect to Wi-Fi in the background.
These are the issues explicitly identified in the release notes; the announcement does not establish that every bug affecting a device has been resolved.

How to install Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1
- Check eligibility. Confirm that your phone or tablet is one of the supported models listed above.
- Back up local data. Google warns that beta software can contain errors and defects, and opting out can require a downgrade that wipes data stored on the device.
- Enroll through Android Beta for Pixel. Use Google’s Android Beta for Pixel program to enroll the eligible device.
- Install the offered over-the-air update. After enrollment, the beta is delivered as an OTA update. Follow the update prompt on the device to download and install it.
Because this is pre-release software, enrollment is best suited to people prepared to handle defects and a possible reset—not anyone who needs their phone to behave like a stable release.

Google’s standard Android Beta Program guidance says opting out normally sends a downgrade update that erases locally stored data. Back up before enrolling, and do not treat cloud sync as a substitute for checking that important files and device data are recoverable.
There is a specific, temporary exception for people who are already enrolled in an Android 17 beta: Google says they can opt out and decline the QPR3 Beta 1 downgrade update to wait for the public Android 17 QPR2 release without wiping. Installing QPR3 Beta 1 removes that safe exit. If avoiding a wipe is essential, do not install QPR3 Beta 1 on the assumption that the exception will remain available.

Install QPR3 Beta 1 if you have an eligible device, want to test the listed fixes, and can tolerate bugs and the risk of data loss when leaving. If reliability and a predictable exit matter more, stay on the stable public software instead. The beta announcement provides no benchmark or adoption data to quantify performance differences.
