Ampere Computing’s documented Linux Foundation relationship is its membership in the Linux Foundation-hosted Cloud Hypervisor Project, announced on 15 December 2022. That relationship places Ampere in an open-source virtualization community; it does not establish that Ampere owns, operates or formally represents Linux Foundation Events. The Linux Foundation’s event portfolio is much broader, spanning Linux, cloud native, AI, security, networking, embedded systems and open-source governance.
What is Ampere’s connection to the Linux Foundation?
The clearest public evidence is the Linux Foundation’s 15 December 2022 announcement that Ampere Computing joined the Cloud Hypervisor Project as a member. Cloud Hypervisor is a virtual machine monitor designed for modern cloud and edge workloads.
Ampere senior vice president Mauri Whalen said the company’s contributions would expand its open-source development initiatives and help advance virtualization technology. The announcement describes Cloud Hypervisor as open to organizations and contributors worldwide, so Ampere’s documented role is ecosystem participation and technical collaboration—not ownership of Linux Foundation Events.
What is Cloud Hypervisor?
Cloud Hypervisor is a project focused on running virtual machines for cloud and edge environments. Its relevance to Ampere is the intersection of virtualization, Arm-based server platforms and cloud infrastructure. Ampere’s membership indicates an interest in improving or contributing to that software ecosystem, but the announcement does not specify a particular Ampere product, performance result or exclusive technical responsibility.

What Ampere’s membership does show
- Ampere participates in a Linux Foundation-hosted open-source project.
- The company publicly linked that participation to virtualization and broader open-source development.
- Cloud Hypervisor welcomes contributions from organizations and individual developers.
What it does not show
- It does not prove that Ampere is a Linux Foundation corporate member.
- It does not mean Ampere runs Linux Foundation conferences.
- It does not establish that Ampere attends every Linux Foundation event or sponsors a particular conference.
What Linux Foundation Events cover
The Linux Foundation’s 2025 schedule included conferences and specialist gatherings across several technical communities. Examples included KubeCon + CloudNativeCon, Open Source Summit, Open Networking & Edge Summit, Linux Security Summit, Automotive Grade Linux meetings, OpenSearchCon, PyTorch Conference, Open Compliance Summit and AI_dev events.
| Community area | Typical subjects | Likely audience |
|---|---|---|
| Linux and open source | Kernel development, distribution engineering, maintainership and project governance | Maintainers, contributors and systems engineers |
| Cloud and cloud native | Kubernetes, containers, platform engineering and distributed infrastructure | Platform engineers, developers and technical leaders |
| AI and machine learning | Frameworks, model infrastructure and open AI ecosystems | AI engineers, researchers and project contributors |
| Networking and edge | Open networking, telecom, edge computing and connected infrastructure | Network engineers, operators and hardware-software partners |
| Security and compliance | Linux security, software supply chains, licensing and compliance operations | Security teams, legal and compliance professionals |
| Embedded and automotive | In-vehicle software and embedded Linux collaboration | Automotive engineers, suppliers and embedded developers |
Linux Foundation documentation positions these gatherings as places to exchange ideas, learn from peers, collaborate and address security challenges, including through hackathons. The Linux Foundation Member Summit is a separate annual gathering for member organizations; its 2024 edition ran from 19 to 21 November in Napa, California.

Which Linux Foundation event is most relevant to Ampere?
No public attendance list in the supplied evidence identifies every event Ampere attends. Relevance depends on the work a reader wants to do rather than on the Ampere name alone.
- Virtualization and Arm servers: Cloud Hypervisor or cloud-native infrastructure discussions are the closest match to Ampere’s documented project role.
- Platform operations: KubeCon + CloudNativeCon and related cloud events are relevant to teams deploying workloads on Arm-based compute.
- Networking and edge: Open Networking & Edge Summit is a better fit for telecom, edge and network infrastructure projects.
- Security: Linux Security Summit and compliance-focused events suit teams concerned with hardening, supply-chain security or licensing.
- Automotive or embedded systems: Automotive Grade Linux meetings are relevant only when the work involves those domains.
How large are these events?
The Linux Foundation projected more than 120,000 total attendees across its 2025 event schedule, according to a 2024 Linux Foundation publication. That is a portfolio projection, not the attendance of one conference.

The KubeCon Europe figures should not be generalized to every Linux Foundation event. Smaller specialist summits and member-oriented meetings can have very different formats and audiences.
Can a company sponsor a Linux Foundation event?
Yes. Linux Foundation Events markets sponsorship packages and invites companies to inquire about availability. The sponsor page lists potential benefits including thought leadership, recruiting, brand recognition, sales-lead generation, partnerships, product and technology visibility, and media exposure.

What to confirm before committing
- Identify the specific event and audience, rather than buying against the entire Linux Foundation portfolio.
- Ask which sponsorship tier includes the exposure you need: sessions, booths, demonstrations, recruiting or meeting space.
- Confirm current pricing, inventory, deadlines, attendee-data rules and cancellation terms directly with the event team.
- Separate measurable goals—qualified leads, hiring conversations, contributor engagement or partner meetings—from general brand awareness.
Packages, prices and availability change by event and year. The public material does not establish a universal price list or a commission-bearing referral program for registrations, training or sponsorships.

The Linux Foundation’s Open Source Partner Program describes a CNCF infrastructure example using Arm-based Ampere A1 Compute instances, high-speed block storage and low-latency networking for project build, testing and delivery workloads.
Best Value
This is evidence of Ampere infrastructure being used in a partner context for cloud-native open-source projects. It is separate from the 2022 Cloud Hypervisor membership announcement and should not be read as proof that Ampere sponsors every CNCF event or that the arrangement is an affiliate program.
Are Linux Foundation events worthwhile for infrastructure engineers?
They can be valuable when the event’s project community matches your work. The strongest reasons to attend are direct access to maintainers and users, practical sessions, contributor discussions, hiring and partnership conversations, and hands-on collaboration such as hackathons.
Use this decision checklist
- Choose the project first: Match the event to Kubernetes, Linux, virtualization, networking, security, AI or embedded work.
- Check the audience: Look for maintainers and contributors if you need technical depth; choose executive or member gatherings for partnership strategy.
- Compare access: Verify location, dates, recordings, registration rules and whether attendance is open or invitation-based.
- Set a measurable outcome: Examples include resolving an interoperability issue, recruiting a specialist, meeting a maintainer or evaluating an Arm deployment path.
- Validate current details: Event dates, attendance figures, sponsorship inventory and project membership can change, so confirm them on the relevant official page before booking.
Bottom line
Ampere’s confirmed Linux Foundation link is its Cloud Hypervisor Project membership, supported by Ampere’s stated commitment to open-source virtualization. Linux Foundation Events provide the broader meeting network—from cloud native and Linux to AI, security, networking and embedded systems—while Ampere also appears in partnership material describing Arm-based A1 Compute infrastructure for CNCF workloads. Treat event attendance, sponsorship and current project status as event-specific details to verify before making plans.
