The primarily in-person Linux Foundation event brought maintainers, developers, security engineers, researchers and industry leaders together around software-supply-chain security. Its program focused on SBOMs, digital signatures, vulnerability management, SLSA, artificial-intelligence security orchestration and post-quantum cryptography.
What is OpenSSF Community Day North America?
OpenSSF Community Day North America is a practitioner-focused regional event organized by the Linux Foundation and the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF). It is designed for people who build, maintain, consume or secure open-source software, with sessions aimed at making software development and delivery more trustworthy and sustainable.

Community Days bring together maintainers, security researchers and industry leaders to discuss practical capabilities for securing the development, maintenance and consumption of software. The North American edition is part of a recurring regional series rather than a permanent venue or year-round conference.

When and where was the 2026 event?
- Date: Thursday, May 21, 2026
- City: Minneapolis, Minnesota
- Format: Primarily in person
- Co-located event: Open Source Summit North America
The Linux Foundation archive lists earlier North American editions in Seattle on April 15, 2024, and Denver on June 26, 2025. Future editions may move to a different city, date or co-located summit, so those details should be checked against the current Linux Foundation event listing.

What was on the 2026 agenda?
The agenda covered the main technical and operational problems involved in securing modern software supply chains.
Software bills of materials
Sessions examined SBOM production and use, including how to provide transparency without disclosing confidential supply-chain information. “Petra: SBOMs Without Oversharing for Confidential Supply Chain Transparency” was a named example.
Digital signatures and provenance
Digital-signature topics addressed how artifacts and metadata can be authenticated so users and automated systems can verify where software came from and whether it was altered.

Vulnerability-management discussions focused on identifying, prioritizing and responding to weaknesses across dependencies and the wider software lifecycle.
SLSA in software development
SLSA (Supply-chain Levels for Software Artifacts) application was a central theme. “Verification Toward Applying SLSA in Automotive IVI Software Development” illustrated how supply-chain assurance practices can be applied in a specialized production environment.
Post-quantum cryptography
“Quantum Proofing Sigstore: A Tale of Three Approaches” addressed preparations for cryptographic threats from future quantum-capable systems, particularly in signing and verification infrastructure.
AI-assisted security operations
Artificial intelligence was treated as a security-orchestration concern rather than only a development aid. “AI as Security Orchestrator: An Introduction To Darnit” was among the listed sessions.

Incident response and practical exercises
The 2025 Denver program included an OpenSSF Table Top Exercise on incident response and risk mitigation, alongside keynotes, lightning talks and practical tooling sessions. That format shows how Community Day programming can extend beyond presentations into hands-on security planning, although the 2026 agenda should be consulted for its exact exercise lineup.

Who attends OpenSSF Community Day?
The event is aimed at software developers, security engineers, open-source professionals, maintainers and contributors. The 2026 sponsorship prospectus reported that 68% of attendees held technical positions, with architects, executive leaders, application developers and technical-team managers among the leading job functions.
The OpenSSF 2026 annual report reported the following figures for the 2025 Denver edition:
| Measure | 2025 Denver figure |
|---|---|
| Registrations | 149 |
| Attendees | 164 |
| Represented organizations | 108 |
| CFP submissions | 72 |
| Sessions | 29 |
| Speakers | 42 |
The same annual report recorded attendee geography of 88% North America, 5% Europe, 1% Asia and 5% Australia/Oceania for that edition. These are historical Denver figures, not a headcount for Minneapolis.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow much did 2026 registration cost?
The listed standard attendee rate for the February 2–May 21, 2026 registration period was $25. This was the published event rate before the event passed, not a promise of pricing for a later edition.
Registration included:
- All conference sessions, keynotes and panels
- Lunch
- Morning and afternoon coffee or snacks
- Conference swag
- On-demand access to sessions
The registration information also covered refund timing, substitutions and certificate-of-attendance handling. The event FAQ described business-casual attire and noted common dietary accommodations.
Where can you watch OpenSSF Community Day recordings?
The official post-event materials direct viewers to session recordings on the OpenSSF YouTube channel. Speaker slides are linked from the Linux Foundation event schedule when presenters provide them. The 2025 archive also preserves recording and presentation links, making it useful for reviewing the previous edition’s talks.
Because recordings and slide availability can vary by speaker, an individual session may have a video, slides, both or neither.
How to evaluate a future edition
When comparing another North American Community Day with the 2026 Minneapolis event, check these factors:

Is this event useful for your role?
Maintainers and developers
Prioritize sessions on SBOM generation, signing, provenance and practical SLSA adoption. These topics map directly to build and release workflows.
Security and platform teams
Focus on vulnerability management, verification, incident response and orchestration. The material is most useful when you can relate it to your organization’s build systems and dependency inventory.
Technical leaders
Use the agenda to compare governance choices, cryptographic-transition plans and the staffing or tooling implications of supply-chain controls.
Researchers and contributors
Lightning talks, technical sessions and community discussions provide a route into current OpenSSF projects and emerging implementation problems.
