AMD’s first documented Ryzen chipset software package with explicit Windows 11 version 24H2 support was version 6.05.28.016. It was an earlier release, not a new August 2026 launch. If your PC already has a newer compatible chipset package, there is no reason to downgrade to this one: use the latest appropriate package from AMD or your computer maker.
What AMD released for Windows 11 24H2
AMD’s release notes identify Ryzen Chipset Driver 6.05.28.016 as adding Windows 11 24H2 support. The notes also list new program support and bug fixes. They do not establish a universal gaming, productivity, battery-life, or boot-time improvement. AMD’s release notes for version 6.05.28.016 show which individual components changed and which were marked “No change.”
The support addition applies to relevant components, not necessarily every driver in the package. AMD’s later notes document version 7.11.26.2142 adding Windows 11 25H2 support and version 8.02.18.557 with expanded processor and chipset support and bug fixes. Those later packages are not the first 24H2-support release. See AMD’s 7.11.26.2142 notes and 8.02.18.557 notes.
Components AMD listed with 24H2 support
AMD’s 6.05.28.016 notes list the following driver versions with Windows 11 24H2 support. Availability and relevance depend on the particular system; not every PC uses every component.

What “chipset driver” means—and what it does not
AMD’s chipset software is an installer package containing multiple independent platform drivers. The applicable set depends on the processor, chipset, Windows version, and system design. The label does not mean there is one driver file that controls the entire motherboard.

- BIOS/UEFI: Motherboard firmware provided by the board or system manufacturer. A chipset package does not replace a BIOS update.
- Radeon graphics driver: The display and graphics driver, distributed separately. A chipset installer is not the fix for a graphics-only problem.
- Windows Update: May deliver Microsoft-approved drivers, but AMD directs users to its chipset-specific download path for the AMD package.
Compatibility depends on the processor and system
AMD’s release notes list Windows 11 chipset support for platforms including WRX90/TRX50, WRX80, TRX40, X670E/X670, B650E/B650, X570, B550, A520, X399, X470, B450, X370, B350, and A320. The processor table covers selected Ryzen desktop, mobile, Threadripper, Ryzen 8000G, and other families; it does not make every AMD processor eligible.
In the relevant Windows 11 table, AMD marks first-generation Ryzen desktop processors, Ryzen 2000G desktop APUs, Ryzen Mobile 2000U, and 7th-generation A-Series processors unsupported. A chipset appearing in the list does not guarantee that every processor combination, laptop implementation, or component is supported. Check AMD’s release notes for the exact platform, and for Windows 11 eligibility consult Microsoft’s supported AMD processor list for Windows 11 24H2. Driver-package support and Windows 11 CPU eligibility are separate questions.

Laptop owners should check the manufacturer’s support page first. OEM firmware and customized drivers can be specific to a laptop model, and Microsoft advises users to contact their hardware vendor for system-specific support. Threadripper and workstation owners should select the appropriate WRX or TRX platform rather than assuming a consumer Ryzen package is interchangeable.
Should you install a chipset package?
- You have a clean Windows installation or upgraded the platform: Install the appropriate official package for the supported system.
- Your installed package predates 24H2 support: Consider updating to a compatible current package, especially if platform devices are not working correctly.
- You already have a newer compatible package: Keep it; do not install 6.05.28.016 just because it was the first package to list 24H2 support.
- You have an OEM laptop or prebuilt: Check the system maker’s drivers first and use its package if it specifies one for your model.
- You are troubleshooting sleep, power, GPIO, USB4, or sensor behavior: A chipset update is a reasonable step, but the release notes do not guarantee it will fix a particular symptom.
- Your only issue is graphics: Check the Radeon graphics driver separately. For BIOS, memory-training, or CPU-microcode problems, investigate motherboard or system firmware rather than treating the chipset installer as a substitute.
How to download and install safely
AMD’s installation guide was last updated June 10, 2025. Its screenshots use a newer package and an X870E system, so screens and labels can vary by version and hardware. Follow AMD’s chipset installation guide and use this general sequence:

| Error | What to check |
|---|---|
| 1601 | Check the Windows Installer service. AMD documents re-registering it from an elevated command prompt with msiexec.exe /unreg followed by msiexec.exe /regserver. |
| 1602 | The installation was cancelled by the user or another process. Close applications and rerun the installer. |
| 1603 | Check for antivirus interference, pending Windows updates, or system-file problems. From an elevated command prompt, AMD provides DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and SFC /SCANNOW. |
| 1720 | Check administrator rights, download integrity, extraction path, and permissions. |
| 1302 | The drive containing the installer may be inaccessible. AMD suggests trying a clean boot and checking whether a VPN is active. |
| 1316 | Previous installer files or Windows Installer problems may be interfering. |
AMD says chipset installer logs are saved under <OS drive>AMDChipset_SoftwareLogs. If a Ryzen PPKG installation or upgrade fails, consult AMD’s guide for the applicable recovery steps rather than repeatedly rerunning the same installer.
Remove or roll back a package only when necessary
For a clean reinstall, AMD recommends Control Panel → Programs and Features → AMD Chipset Software. Do not manually remove individual chipset entries in Device Manager or use third-party driver-removal utilities; AMD warns against both approaches.
AMD documents a specific version conflict in which installing a 7.xx package prevents installation of a 6.xx or earlier package. Its workaround is to uninstall the newer AMD Chipset installer, delete C:Program Files (x86)AMDChipset_SoftwareQt_Dependencies, then install the older package. This is a targeted recovery procedure for that conflict, not a routine update step. See AMD’s version 8.02.18.557 release notes.
