Their latest reported results show strong but distinct demand signals. Those results alone do not establish which stock is the better buy: a defensible choice also requires comparable, current valuation data and a view of each company’s execution risks.
What the latest results show
The most recent results available here are AMD’s quarter ended June 27, 2026, released August 4, and ASML’s quarter ended June 28, 2026, released July 15. AMD reports in U.S. dollars; ASML reports in euros. The figures below are company-reported and are not directly interchangeable measures of performance.

| Company | Quarterly results | Demand evidence and outlook |
|---|---|---|
| AMD | Q2 2026 revenue was $11.536 billion, GAAP gross margin 54%, operating income $1.990 billion, net income $2.297 billion and diluted EPS $1.38. AMD also reported non-GAAP gross margin of 56% and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $1.66; these adjusted measures should not be mixed with GAAP figures. | Data Center revenue was $6.718 billion, up 107% year over year, which AMD primarily attributed to EPYC processor demand and Instinct MI350 GPU shipments. Client and Gaming revenue was $3.841 billion, up 6%, and Embedded revenue was $977 million, up 19%. On August 4, CFO Jean Hu said the company expected Data Center sales to accelerate in the second half of 2026; that is management guidance, not a reported outcome. |
| ASML | Q2 2026 net sales were €9.326 billion, gross margin 54.0%, net income €2.918 billion and basic EPS €7.59. ASML sold 86 new and five used lithography systems. | ASML cited extremely strong first-half order intake and increased visibility from customer commitments. On July 15 it guided for Q3 sales of €11–12 billion and 55–57% gross margin, and raised its full-year 2026 outlook to €43–45 billion in sales and 54–56% gross margin. These are management expectations, not achieved results. |
AMD’s revenue growth and ASML’s orders, customer commitments and sales guidance describe different parts of the semiconductor supply chain. Comparing the percentages alone would obscure what each company sells and what its indicators measure.
How the businesses differ
AMD sells compute products
AMD’s reported Data Center growth reflects demand for its processors and accelerators, including EPYC CPUs and Instinct GPUs. The investment case therefore depends on product execution, customer demand and the company’s ability to scale supply. Its other reported segments—Client and Gaming, and Embedded—provide additional sources of revenue, but their latest growth rates were much lower than Data Center’s.

ASML sells tools chipmakers need
ASML sells lithography systems and services to chip manufacturers. Its demand indicators include orders, customer commitments and manufacturers’ capacity plans, rather than sales of the chips or compute products made using its equipment. CEO Christophe Fouquet said on July 15 that AI investment and progress in AI technologies were driving demand for advanced logic and memory chips. That is ASML’s explanation of the demand environment, not a guarantee of future sales.
ASML said it planned to add 30% to its 2026 low-NA EUV capacity of around 65 systems for 2027, and 30% to its 2026 DUV immersion capacity of around 130 systems for 2027. It was investigating another 30% increase in each category for 2028; that further increase was under investigation, not a firm output commitment.

What could complicate the growth story
AMD: product ramps and year-over-year comparisons
AMD’s second-half outlook depends on sustaining product ramps and scaling supply to meet demand. Its filing also says revenue has historically generally been higher in the second half, while warning that market conditions and product transitions could affect that pattern. Some of the year-over-year gross-margin improvement also reflects an unusual comparison: AMD’s Q2 2025 results included $800 million in inventory and related charges connected with U.S. government export controls on MI308 data-center GPUs, and the absence of those charges contributed to the Q2 2026 improvement.
ASML: customer plans and delivery capacity
ASML’s guidance and capacity plans depend on customer programs translating into orders and system deliveries, as well as ASML expanding its own output. Customer commitments can improve visibility, but they do not eliminate the possibility that plans, timing or demand may change. The cited ASML release does not quantify policy or geographic risks on a basis directly comparable with AMD’s disclosed export-control charges.

How to decide which stock better fits
Start with the investment question, not the recent growth rate. AMD and ASML have different revenue drivers and their reported results use different currencies and, in AMD’s case, both GAAP and non-GAAP presentations.
- Compare valuation on the same date. Check each company’s share price and use a consistent valuation measure, such as trailing or forward price-to-earnings. Forward measures rely on estimates, so note the estimate source and period. No comparable current valuation inputs are established here; without them, a buy ranking would be unsupported.
- Test the earnings assumptions. For AMD, examine whether Data Center growth and product ramps can support future earnings. For ASML, consider whether orders, customer commitments and planned capacity expansion can translate into deliveries and revenue.
- Look beyond headline earnings. Review cash generation, debt and other balance-sheet factors, and use consistent accounting bases when comparing profitability. The figures above do not establish a full cash-flow or balance-sheet comparison.
- Match the exposure to your risk tolerance and time horizon. A direct compute-product supplier and a lithography-equipment supplier face different execution and demand risks. Neither company’s operating momentum alone determines whether its shares suit a particular investor.
- Refresh the evidence before acting. The guidance cited is dated July and August 2026, and company outlooks can change with later earnings releases. Use updated filings and prices rather than treating this snapshot as a live recommendation.
Can the available evidence name a better buy?
No. The latest reported figures show strong demand signals for both companies, but they do not answer whether either stock is attractively priced. A valuation comparison using contemporaneous share prices and earnings expectations is missing, and the companies’ business models make their growth measures non-equivalent. The practical conclusion is to compare valuation and execution expectations with updated information, then decide which exposure fits your own time horizon and risk tolerance.
