Start with Windows Update, then check and update or reinstall the device in Device Manager. If Windows still cannot find it, identify the laptop’s exact model and get the appropriate Windows 11 driver from its manufacturer. An AMD processor does not establish that AMD supplies the touchpad driver.
1. Install available drivers through Windows Update
Microsoft recommends Windows Update as the method to update touchpad drivers. It works without installation media: connect to the internet, check for updates, and install available updates, including optional driver updates if Windows offers them for the device. Restart if Windows asks you to.

2. Check whether Windows sees the touchpad
Open Device Manager and inspect both Human Interface Devices and Mice and other pointing devices. Microsoft identifies these as the categories where a touchpad may appear. The exact entry name can vary by laptop.

- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices and Mice and other pointing devices.
- If a touchpad entry appears, right-click it and choose Update driver, then follow Windows’ prompts.
If no touchpad entry appears, continue to the manufacturer step below. Do not assume that a missing entry means the laptop needs an AMD touchpad driver.
3. Reinstall a touchpad entry that is listed
If updating a visible touchpad does not help, Microsoft says reinstalling it through Device Manager may help and can prompt Windows to obtain the latest driver through Windows Update.

- In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad entry and choose Uninstall device.
- Follow the current Windows prompts. Restart the laptop after the uninstall workflow.
- After Windows restarts, allow it to detect the device and install a driver. Check Windows Update again if needed.
This is a recovery attempt, not a guarantee: if the touchpad remains unavailable, use the laptop maker’s support route.

When updating or reinstalling does not resolve the problem, Microsoft directs users to the device manufacturer. Find the laptop’s exact make and model from its label or Windows system information, then search the manufacturer’s official support site for that model and a Windows 11 touchpad or pointing-device package. Choose the package for the correct model and Windows version; do not install a package based only on the AMD processor brand.

With no laptop make or model specified, there is no reliable model-specific download link to give. The manufacturer and exact model determine which package, if any, applies.
5. What AMD Auto-Detect can—and cannot—do
AMD’s Auto-Detect and Install Tool checks compatible Radeon graphics, Ryzen chipsets, and the Windows version. AMD’s page, last updated June 2, 2025, lists Windows 11 version 21H2 and later as supported. That describes graphics and chipset driver detection; it does not establish the tool as a universal touchpad-driver solution.

Use the AMD tool only if you also need an AMD graphics or chipset driver. For a touchpad that remains missing, identify the laptop and follow its maker’s support guidance instead.

If both the touchpad and keyboard are unusable, an external USB or Bluetooth mouse can make it easier to reach Windows settings and Device Manager. It is only a navigation aid and does not restore the touchpad driver. What to gather if the problem continues
- Laptop manufacturer and exact model
- Windows 11 version and build
- Whether any touchpad or unknown device appears in either Device Manager category
- What happened after Windows Update or the Device Manager reinstall attempt
