Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Neither AMD FSR nor NVIDIA DLSS is a universal winner. The result depends on the game, graphics card, feature version, output resolution, and settings. Compare the same feature in the same game: upscaling against upscaling, frame generation against frame generation, and ray reconstruction against ray reconstruction. Official vendor materials describe features and compatibility, but do not establish a controlled, across-the-board image-quality or performance winner.
What are you comparing: upscaling, frame generation, or ray reconstruction?
“FSR versus DLSS” can mean different technologies. Upscaling renders a game at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs an image for the selected output resolution. Frame generation creates additional displayed frames between traditionally rendered frames. Ray reconstruction is a separate feature for processing ray-traced effects. These functions affect image quality and performance differently, so a comparison is useful only when it matches the same function.

- Upscaling: Compare the same game, output resolution, and quality mode. Include native rendering as a baseline.
- Frame generation: Keep generated frames distinct from traditionally rendered frames. Compare responsiveness as well as the displayed frame rate.
- Ray reconstruction: Treat it as its own comparison; do not assume that a result for upscaling says how reconstruction of ray-traced effects will look.
NVIDIA’s May 31, 2026 announcement describes DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, 6X Multi Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction. The features are not interchangeable. NVIDIA’s DLSS 4.5 announcement also reports over 1,000 RTX games and applications. That is NVIDIA’s own catalog count, not an independently audited or directly comparable FSR count.

Is FSR better than DLSS for image quality or performance?
The available official materials do not settle that question with a matched test. Vendor feature descriptions and support announcements are not a substitute for testing both options on the same game, GPU, resolution, quality setting, driver, and software version. A fair image-quality comparison should examine detail and stability in motion—not just a still frame. A fair performance comparison should record the native frame rate before frame generation and assess responsiveness as well as the resulting displayed frame rate.

- Powered by Radeon RX 9070 XT
- WINDFORCE Cooling System
- Hawk Fan
- Server-grade Thermal Conductive Gel
- RGB Lighting
Use this checklist when comparing two options:
- Same game and game patch
- Same function: upscaling, frame generation, or ray reconstruction
- Same GPU where both features are supported, or clearly identified GPU models
- Same output resolution and comparable quality mode
- Native rendering as a baseline, with native frame rate recorded before frame generation
- Image detail and stability during motion, plus latency and responsiveness
- Driver and feature versions noted
Without those controls, a higher displayed frame rate or a sharper-looking screenshot alone cannot establish which technology is better overall.
Does FSR work on NVIDIA cards?
FSR support is version- and game-dependent; it is not safe to assume every FSR version is available on every GPU or in every title. AMD says FSR 1 and FSR 2 are available in selected games and require developer integration. Its FSR gaming details also describe support as game dependent. Check the specific game’s settings or support information for the version and hardware you intend to use.

Which games and GPUs support FSR 4 or DLSS 4.5?
Compatibility changes by title, feature, hardware generation, and software version. The dated announcements below illustrate why a general brand-level answer is not enough.
| Technology and snapshot | What the source says | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, March 10, 2026 | NVIDIA said DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution was available to GeForce RTX gamers through the NVIDIA app. Its announcement tied Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and 6X Multi Frame Generation to RTX 50-series GPUs, and specified GeForce Game Ready Driver 595.79 WHQL or newer for the announced new features. It listed titles including 007 First Light, CONTROL Resonant, INDUSTRIA 2, War Thunder, and Where Winds Meet. | Check the current game implementation, GPU eligibility for the exact feature, and driver requirements. The announcement is a dated snapshot, not a guarantee that every listed feature is available in every listed game. |
| AMD FSR 4, support-list snapshot updated July 18, 2025 | The AMD support-list result stated that FSR 4 was exclusive to RX 9070 and RX 9060 series cards in that snapshot and required Adrenalin Edition 25.3.1 or newer. | Treat this as a historical compatibility snapshot, not a verified October 2026 comprehensive list. Confirm current GPU, game, and driver support. |
| AMD Adrenalin 25.6.3 optional Windows driver notes | The notes listed Monster Hunter Wilds and Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced as FSR 4 support additions. They also described named games where FSR 4 was not enabled on RX 9000 products and a possible texture flicker or corruption issue with FSR enabled in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on RX 9070 XT. | Consult the driver notes and the game’s current support information for title-specific availability and known issues. |

- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
How should you choose between them?
- Start with your games. Find out which technology and feature each game actually supports; implementation is title-specific.
- Check your GPU and software. Confirm that your exact card supports the feature in that game, and note the required driver or app version.
- Match the settings. Compare like-for-like functions at the same output resolution and equivalent quality settings.
- Judge image quality in motion. Look for stable detail and artifacts while the camera and objects move, not only in a paused image.
- Measure performance in context. Use native rendering as a baseline. For frame generation, record the native frame rate separately from generated-frame output and consider responsiveness.
If one option is unavailable in a game or on your GPU, that compatibility fact may decide the choice before image quality does. If both are available, the comparison should be made for that game and setup rather than generalized to every FSR or DLSS version.
