The stick adds Wi-Fi 6 and runs Amazon’s Vega OS; Amazon also claims it is faster than a similarly priced rival. That speed claim has not been independently benchmarked in the launch coverage. The remote is available separately, so existing Fire TV owners may be able to buy the controller without replacing their stick.
What’s new about the Fire TV Stick 4K?
The 2026 model pairs updated streaming hardware with Amazon’s new Fire TV experience and a redesigned remote. Amazon lists these specifications:

Amazon says the stick can use Direct Power from a TV’s USB port with the included cable. That can avoid using a separate wall outlet where the television’s USB port provides suitable power. Amazon’s launch specifications do not list Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos for this model; TechRadar identifies those as features of the pricier Fire TV Stick 4K Max tier. How much faster is it?
Amazon says the new stick is 20% to 40% faster than a similarly priced competing 4K streaming stick, and that apps launch 35% faster. Those are Amazon’s figures, not results from independent testing of the new model. Tom’s Guide reports the rival-speed claim without identifying the competing device in the cited passage. TechRadar notes that Amazon’s promotional video illustrates company test data rather than showing a real-device comparison. What changed on the remote?
The redesigned remote is shaped to be easier to orient by touch: it has an asymmetric body, a flat top and a curved, weighted bottom. Amazon says the Home button has a distinct metal surface, while other buttons are shaped or indented so they feel different. The remote also includes dedicated power, volume and mute controls for compatible equipment.
A customisable star button can be assigned to a favourite app or a setting. Amazon says the redesigned remote works with Fire TV streaming players launched from 2019 onward. Amazon also says Fire TV Home buttons receive more than 100 million presses per day on average across Fire TV devices; this is a company-reported figure, not an independently verified count. Should you buy the stick or just the remote?
Choose the stick if you need a new 4K streaming player
The 2026 stick is the relevant option if you want Amazon’s listed 4K output, Wi-Fi 6 and Vega OS in a new player. Compare it with the 4K Max carefully if Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos matters: the launch coverage identifies those as Max-tier features, not confirmed features of this base 4K model. Amazon’s speed percentages alone are not enough to establish how much faster it will feel in your setup.
Consider the standalone remote if your Fire TV player is compatible
If your Fire TV streaming player launched in 2019 or later and you mainly want the tactile controls, star shortcut and TV controls, Amazon announced the remote as a separate purchase. That gives compatible existing owners a way to get the controller without buying the new stick.

Fire TV Remote Plus is a different, future product
Amazon also announced a separate premium Fire TV Remote Plus, planned for early 2027. Its announced features include an aluminium case, backlit buttons and Find My Remote, which can make the remote sound when prompted through a compatible Alexa device, the Alexa app or the Fire TV mobile app. Amazon did not announce a price.
