Its public guidance does not establish a universal manual “refresh license” button or menu path on Fire tablets. If an app reports a license or authorization error, check the tablet’s connection, Appstore sign-in, and available updates before seeking help for that specific app.
What a license refresh means on an Amazon tablet
Some apps use Amazon’s digital rights management (DRM) to verify authorization. For those apps, Amazon says the Appstore client periodically contacts Amazon’s servers to refresh an authorization token. The app must have the Amazon Appstore client installed, and that client must be signed in. Amazon’s DRM overview describes how this works for developers; it does not document a customer-facing command to refresh a license manually.

DRM is app dependent: developers choose whether and how to use Amazon DRM, and some apps use other licensing systems. As a result, a license or entitlement error in one app may need to be resolved by that app’s publisher rather than through a general Fire tablet setting.
What to do when an app reports a license error
- Check the connection. Connect the Fire tablet to the internet and confirm that other online services work.
- Check the Amazon Appstore. Open it and confirm that it is installed and signed in to the Amazon account associated with the app. Amazon identifies an installed, signed-in Appstore client as a requirement for apps using Amazon DRM.
- Look for updates. Update the affected app if an update is available, and check for Fire tablet software updates. Amazon says Fire devices receive software updates automatically when connected to the internet and recommends current software to help use features and avoid registration issues. See Amazon’s Fire tablet software update guidance.
- Reopen the app or restart the tablet. These are low-risk troubleshooting steps, not documented Amazon license-refresh commands.
- Get app-specific help if the error persists. If other apps work but one still fails, consult that app’s publisher or Amazon support. The publisher determines whether the app uses Amazon DRM and may have its own authorization checks.
Amazon’s public guidance reviewed here does not establish an exact Settings or Appstore path for a manual license refresh. Labels can differ by device generation, software version, and region, so avoid relying on an unverified menu route.

Why a factory reset is not a license-refresh step
A factory reset is a destructive device-recovery measure, not a routine way to renew an app’s authorization. Amazon says resetting a Fire tablet removes downloaded content, including in-app purchases, and deregisters the device from the Amazon account. See Amazon’s factory-reset guidance and its information about deregistering a device. Only consider a reset for a broader device problem, after backing up content you want to keep and preparing to register the tablet again.
