The change was reported on October 9, a day after Amazon announced three new Alexa Tablets. Amazon has not explained the reason for the leadership change, and the timing alone does not establish a connection to the tablet launch.
Who is taking over Alexa?
Reuters reported on October 9, 2026, that Rausch, a 17-year Amazon veteran who had led Alexa and Echo as vice president for more than three years, would step away from the Alexa unit the following month. He is expected to return to another role in Amazon’s Devices and Services organization in 2027.

Aidan Marcuss is to take over the Alexa role. He joined Amazon from Microsoft in early 2025 and was vice president of Fire TV, advertising, and the Amazon appstore. Kevin Keith, a product and marketing vice president, will retain that role while temporarily taking on Marcuss’ other responsibilities “for the time being,” according to Amazon. Reuters’ report says Amazon declined to provide further detail about the personnel changes.

Why did Amazon change Alexa leadership?
Amazon has not publicly provided a reason in the reporting available as of October 9, 2026. The announcement came one day after the company introduced its new tablet lineup, but that sequence does not establish that the launch caused the shuffle. Reuters described Alexa as a consistent money-loser but supplied no dollar figure or supporting calculation in this report, so it does not quantify Alexa’s financial performance or establish that it prompted the change.
