Not every product carrying the Fire TV name uses the same operating system. Amazon’s Fire OS overview identifies the Fire TV Stick HD (2026) and Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) as Vega OS 1.1 models; the listed 2025 Fire TV 2-Series, 4-Series and Omni QLED models are identified as Fire OS 8. This difference is a reason to verify a must-have app or feature against Amazon’s compatibility information for the exact device rather than assume all Fire TV models have an identical app catalogue or interface.

How to judge the price for your setup
- Start with what you own. If your TV is good enough and has a suitable HDMI input, compare the price of a streamer with the cost of replacing the whole set. If you need a screen, compare televisions at the same size.
- Match output to equipment. An HD streamer can be sufficient for an HD television. Consider a 4K model when your TV supports 4K and you expect to use 4K content. HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and Wi-Fi 6E matter only when the rest of the setup and your content can use them.
- Compare like with like. For streamers, compare resolution, supported formats, wireless features and control method. For TVs, compare exact model, screen size, resolution, display technology, HDR, ports and other needs—not just the series label.
