The strongest alternatives suit different priorities rather than duplicating that feature: Google TV Streamer (4K) for Google Home integration, Roku Ultra for Roku’s interface and ports, and Apple TV 4K for Apple households.
What counts as hands-free voice control?
Streaming-device voice features fall into different categories. The Fire TV Cube has microphones in the device for far-field Alexa, so you can speak to it without pressing a remote button. A voice remote generally requires you to press its microphone button before speaking. A player that works with a separate Alexa- or Google-enabled device relies on that external device instead. Those arrangements are not equivalent.

That distinction matters if your main reason for looking for a Fire TV Cube alternative is controlling playback or finding content by voice from across the room. None of the other candidates below is documented in the cited official product information as a direct match for the Cube’s built-in far-field Alexa setup.

Choose based on the feature you actually need
Keep the Cube for built-in far-field Alexa
Amazon identifies the third-generation Fire TV Cube as a 2022 model. Its specifications list a four-microphone array, hands-free voice control, one HDMI 2.1 input, one HDMI 2.1 output with ARC, 10/100 Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E, and 16 GB of internal storage. These are the relevant distinctions if you want Alexa listening through the player itself or want to connect equipment through its HDMI input. Amazon’s Fire TV Cube specifications provide the model details.
Pick Google TV Streamer for Google Home features
Google TV Streamer (4K) is a strong box-style choice if you use Google TV and Google Home. Google lists up to 4K output, Ethernet, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB storage, a Thread border router, and Google Home/Matter hub support. Its remote supports voice search across apps, and Google says you can ask Google to make a lost remote ring. That is useful voice control, but it is remote-based rather than the Cube’s documented built-in far-field Alexa arrangement. Google’s product help page lists the device features and says its US price is $99.99; availability and pricing can change.

Google says an Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cable is sold separately and recommends one for optimal performance. Whether you need that cable depends on your TV or receiver and the connection you plan to use.
Choose Roku Ultra for Roku’s player and connectivity
Roku Ultra is the relevant premium option if you prefer Roku’s interface, want its Voice Remote Pro, or need a combination of Ethernet and USB. Roku lists 4K, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Wi-Fi 6 among its features. Its comparison page says Alexa functionality requires an Alexa-enabled device, and Google Assistant functionality requires a Google Assistant-enabled device; do not assume Ultra itself has the Cube’s built-in far-field Alexa microphones. Roku’s comparison page displayed a $99.99 offer and a crossed-out $149.99 price when reviewed on October 7, 2026. Those are displayed prices, not a guarantee of a current or recurring offer.

Choose Apple TV 4K for Apple integration
Apple TV 4K makes the most sense when Apple services, App Store apps, Apple devices, or smart-home accessories are central to your setup. Apple’s overview emphasizes those ecosystem connections, but the page reviewed does not provide enough current technical detail to rank it fairly against the other players or establish that its voice interaction matches the Cube’s far-field control. Apple’s Apple TV 4K overview describes its services and integration.
Check your TV, audio gear, and app needs
A player’s listed video and audio formats do not guarantee that every setup will use them. 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos depend on the display, content, connection, and compatible audio equipment. Streaming services may require paid subscriptions, and app availability can vary by country. Roku specifically notes that its app selection varies by country and may change.

Which streaming device is best?
There is no universal winner. If hands-free, across-the-room Alexa is the requirement, the Fire TV Cube is the only option in this comparison documented with that specific built-in setup. Choose Google TV Streamer for Google Home and Matter integration, Roku Ultra for Roku’s player features and connectivity, or Apple TV 4K when Apple ecosystem integration is the priority.
