You don’t need to delete the child profile to switch back.
Switch from the child profile to the adult profile
- While in the child profile, tap the parent overlay menu at the top right. It is represented by an adult-and-child icon.
- Tap Switch Profile.
- Select the adult profile you want to use.
- Enter the device PIN or password if asked.
Amazon’s profile-switching instructions describe this route. Menu labels or locations may vary by tablet generation and software version.

If the menu or profile icon is somewhere else
On some Fire tablets, you can switch profiles through Quick Settings: swipe down from the top of the screen, tap the profile icon at the lower left, then choose the adult profile. Amazon also documents this route in its profile-switching instructions.

Which PIN or password should you enter?
Device PIN or password
When switching from a child profile to an adult profile, Amazon says you may be prompted for the device PIN or password. This is the credential requested by the profile-switching flow.

Child’s lock-screen PIN
A child profile can also have an optional lock-screen PIN. Amazon says this PIN is needed to exit that specific child profile. To configure it, open the Grownups menu, go to Settings, choose an adult profile and enter its PIN, then open Other Settings > Lock Screen and enable Child’s Lock Screen Password. These are distinct from the parental-controls password used on an adult profile. If you cannot exit because a child lock-screen PIN is unavailable, Amazon’s cited help does not provide a recovery procedure; contact Amazon Customer Service for help with your device.

If restrictions are on the adult profile
“Kid mode” can also mean Parental Controls enabled on an adult profile, rather than an Amazon Kids child profile. Amazon describes Parental Controls as restrictions on an adult profile, including limits on features such as shopping, downloads, settings, and web browsing. For children under 13, Amazon directs families to child profiles instead. See Amazon’s Parental Controls help.
If you have forgotten the adult profile’s parental-controls password, Amazon says a factory reset is required to restore full access. A reset is not the routine way to leave a child profile, so don’t use it just because the tablet is currently in Amazon Kids.

Switching profiles is not deleting one
Choose Switch Profile to leave the child profile while keeping it available. Deleting a child profile is a separate action: Amazon says removal through Parent Dashboard makes that profile unusable and no longer visible on compatible Amazon Kids devices. Only remove it if you intend to stop using that profile. See Amazon’s child profile help.
