Amazon and Stellantis mutually wound down their joint development of STLA SmartCockpit, a planned digital-cabin platform. The move did not end every part of their relationship: Reuters reported that Stellantis would continue using AWS and that Alexa would remain available in some vehicles.
What ended—and what did not
The change concerned the companies’ joint SmartCockpit work, not all business between Amazon and Stellantis. Reuters reported on May 28, 2025, that the companies had confirmed a mutual decision to wind down the project. Their reported joint statement said Stellantis remained a valuable partner and that the companies would continue working on other initiatives. Reuters reporting republished by Yahoo Finance.

| Alexa in vehicles | Reuters reported Alexa would remain available in some Stellantis vehicles; the report did not specify current availability by model, trim, or market. |
What SmartCockpit was supposed to do
Stellantis and Amazon announced the multi-year collaboration on January 5, 2022, as part of broader agreements. SmartCockpit was intended to bring digital services into the vehicle cabin, including entertainment, Alexa voice assistance, navigation, vehicle maintenance, ecommerce marketplaces, and payments. The companies said it was expected to begin appearing in Stellantis vehicles globally in 2024, with a planned scale of millions of vehicles. That was a projection in the announcement, not confirmation that the platform launched or reached those vehicles. Stellantis’ January 5, 2022 announcement.

The same announcement covered separate parts of the relationship: Stellantis selected AWS as its preferred cloud provider for vehicle platforms, while Amazon planned to become the first commercial customer for the Ram ProMaster battery-electric van. Those were distinct from the SmartCockpit collaboration.

Why the companies wound it down
The companies described the 2025 decision as mutual. Their statement said it would let each team focus on solutions that deliver value to shared customers and better fit their evolving strategies. Reuters said it could not determine a single cause, so the decision should not be attributed to a specific technical, commercial, or strategic failure.
What Stellantis announced next
On May 21, 2026, Stellantis announced expanded work with Applied Intuition supporting STLA Brain, building on existing SmartCockpit work. In a separate announcement that day, it expanded its Qualcomm relationship across cockpit, connectivity, and driver-assistance platforms. These announcements show Stellantis continuing to develop software partnerships, but they do not identify either company as a direct replacement for Amazon’s SmartCockpit work.
