A fixed beta window is only one way to hear from app users. Teams can collect reports inside the app, ask recurring or feature-specific survey questions, use Google Play testing tracks, and request public reviews after release. These approaches can complement a beta—or reduce reliance on a single deadline—but they do not all reveal the same things or replace release validation.
Choose a feedback method by the question you need answered
Before choosing a tool or testing track, decide whether you need to understand a specific problem in context, measure reported satisfaction, hear from a broader test audience, or gather public ratings. Those are different jobs: an in-app bug report is not equivalent to a survey response, and neither is the same as an app-store review.

| Approach | Useful question | Audience and timing | Practical consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-app feedback or report flow | What problem did this person encounter while using the app? | Testers or users, during use | Choose a visible or contextual way to start a report and decide who will triage it. Firebase’s documented Android SDK is beta. Firebase App Distribution feedback guide |
| Recurring in-app survey | How does reported satisfaction or feature feedback vary over time or across cohorts? | Existing users, at repeated intervals | Keep questions relevant; self-reports do not by themselves show what users did. Amplitude documents recurring satisfaction and feature-feedback surveys. Amplitude surveys guide |
| Feature-triggered survey | What did users think after encountering a particular feature? | People exposed to or interacting with a feature | Target the survey to actual exposure. Airship documents a survey pattern based on feature-flag exposure or interaction. Airship feature flags guide |
| Google Play testing track | What feedback comes from early testers or a larger test group? | Internal or broader test audiences, depending on track | Set up a direct feedback channel and a process to review reports. Google Play internal testing guidance and Google Play testing guidance |
| App-store review request | What public rating or review will a production user leave? | Production users, after release | Follow platform timing and frequency behavior. A public review prompt is not a private, structured defect-report channel. Apple review request guidance |
| TestFlight feedback | What issues do invited Apple-platform testers report on a beta build? | Invited testers, during a beta | TestFlight supports screenshot feedback, but each build becomes unavailable to testers after 90 days. Apple TestFlight overview |
This is a comparison of context, audience, timing, reach, implementation and likely report detail—not an effectiveness ranking. The platform and vendor documentation describes available features and policies; it does not establish which method produces the best feedback or detects the most defects.
Collect reports inside the app when context matters
An in-app report lets a user raise an issue close to the moment it happens. That can help connect the report to a screen or interaction, especially when the reporting flow captures a screenshot. It is useful for testers and production users, provided the team has a clear intake and triage process.

TestFlight feedback for Apple beta builds
Apple describes TestFlight as a way to distribute beta builds, manage testers, and collect feedback. Testers can submit feedback in TestFlight or take a screenshot from the beta app. Apple says teams can continue distributing builds as they resolve issues, but a build becomes unavailable to testers after 90 days. That limit applies to the build; it is not a recommended beta duration. Apple’s TestFlight overview
Firebase App Distribution feedback for Android
Firebase documents an optional Android SDK flow that lets a tester report feedback with a screenshot of the current activity. The flow can start from a built-in ongoing notification or a custom trigger. Firebase labels the SDK beta and states that it has no service-level agreement or deprecation policy, so teams should check its current support status and decide whether that operational uncertainty is acceptable before relying on it. Use surveys for reported experience, not as a substitute for observation
Surveys can reach users on a recurring schedule or at a moment tied to a feature. They are most useful when the question is specifically about what people say they experienced or how their responses change. Answers alone do not establish how users behaved, and people who choose to respond may not represent everyone who used the app.

Amplitude documents recurring satisfaction and feature-feedback surveys. A team can use that pattern to compare responses over time or among cohorts, while keeping the prompt concise and relevant to the user’s experience. Amplitude surveys guide

Feature-triggered surveys
Airship documents triggering a survey for people who saw or interacted with a feature-flagged experience. This makes the question more specific than a general satisfaction prompt: it can ask about a feature after exposure. The documentation describes the capability, not proof that the method improves product outcomes. Airship feature flags guide
Broaden testing through Google Play tracks
Google Play presents open testing as a way to gather quantitative and qualitative feedback from a large group of testers. Its guidance also describes internal testing as a route to early feedback. These tracks can expand or structure access to a test build, but they still require a way for testers to tell the team what happened.

Google recommends providing a direct feedback channel, such as email, a website or a forum. Decide in advance who monitors that channel, how reports are sorted, and how urgent issues reach the people who can act on them. Google Play testing guidance
Keep public review requests separate from beta feedback
An app-store review request seeks a public rating or review from a production user. It is not a private bug-report flow and should not be treated as a replacement for structured testing. Apple recommends presenting its system review request at a non-disruptive point, such as after a user successfully completes a sequence. Apple’s documentation says the system displays the request at most three times per user within a 365-day period; that is a maximum display frequency, not a guaranteed prompt or a schedule teams can force. The request has no effect for apps distributed through TestFlight. Apple review request guidance Best Value
