Why the browser may not ask for camera access
-
The site already has a saved decision: Check the browser’s Camera permission for the exact site. Change a blocked entry to Allow, or clear the saved decision and reload or revisit the page.
-
The operating system blocks camera access: Check Windows camera privacy controls or, on Android, both the browser app’s permission and the device-wide Camera access control.
-
The wrong camera is selected: If you have multiple cameras, confirm the selected device in Chrome’s Camera settings.

The browser is managed: A work or school administrator may control camera permissions or prevent you from changing them.
-
You are checking a different site or tab: Make sure the permission applies to the same website that is trying to use the camera.
Does allowing the browser let every website use the camera?
No. Device or browser-level access does not replace the individual website permission. In Edge, for example, Microsoft says that even when camera access is enabled for the browser and Windows, you must still give each website permission before it can use the camera.
