AMD’s Adrenalin 26.9.2 driver reportedly contains the identifiers ATlite3, AT2 and Gainsborough. Hardware watchers have linked ATlite3 to a possible next-generation PlayStation GPU and Gainsborough to a possible Steam Deck successor, but neither AMD, Sony nor Valve has confirmed those connections. The driver strings are reported observations; the product identities remain speculation.
What names were reportedly found in AMD’s driver?
VideoCardz reported on October 2, 2026, that AnandTech forum member SixPie found ATlite3, AT2 and Gainsborough in AMD’s Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2 package. AMD released that optional driver on September 29, 2026; its official release notes establish the software version and release context, not what the identifiers refer to.

The names have drawn attention because leakers and hardware watchers associate them with possible future AMD graphics products. As VideoCardz’s report and iXBT’s October 6 coverage make clear, those proposed identities are interpretations rather than official announcements.

No. Leaker Kepler_L2 reportedly suggested ATlite3 could be the GPU for Orion, a name associated with a possible next-generation PlayStation platform. The theory draws a comparison with “Navi10Lite,” a name associated with PS5 development. That naming resemblance may be suggestive, but it does not establish that ATlite3 is Orion’s GPU or that Orion is the PS6.

AT2 has also appeared in earlier RDNA 5 reporting, according to VideoCardz. Its presence alongside the other strings does not establish a consumer product, architecture, performance level or Sony partnership.
Why is Gainsborough linked to a Steam Deck successor?
Kepler_L2 has reportedly connected Gainsborough to a possible Steam Deck 2 chip. One part of the theory is a naming parallel: the original Steam Deck’s APU was called Aerith, and the OLED revision’s was called Sephiroth—both characters from Final Fantasy VII. Gainsborough is Aerith’s surname. That is context for the rumor, not proof of what the identifier denotes.

VideoCardz also described import/export records that reportedly list Gainsborough validation hardware in an FF6 BGA package with 1,179 contacts. The reported record detail does not identify a retail handheld, establish specifications, or provide a launch schedule.
Valve designer Pierre-Loup Griffais has previously described the company’s desired generational leap for a future Deck, telling PC Gamer: “We’re not interested in getting to a point where it’s 20 or 30 or even 50% more performance at the same battery life. We want something a little bit more demarcated than that.” This is a reported design goal, not confirmation that Gainsborough is the chip for a successor.

What is confirmed—and what remains unknown?
| Claim | What the cited material establishes |
|---|---|
| ATlite3, AT2 and Gainsborough appeared in Adrenalin 26.9.2 | Reported by VideoCardz from a forum member’s finding; not an AMD statement identifying the hardware. |
| ATlite3 is associated with Orion or a possible PS6 | A leaker’s interpretation reported by VideoCardz; not confirmed by AMD or Sony. |
| Gainsborough is associated with a Steam Deck successor | A leaker’s interpretation supported by reported naming and import/export context; not confirmed by AMD or Valve. |
| Release dates, prices, specifications and retail availability for the alleged devices | Not established in the cited reporting. |
iXBT explicitly notes that the proposed PS6 and Steam Deck 2 connections have no official confirmation and that driver identifiers do not establish future hardware characteristics or intended product use. The AMD release notes likewise provide no confirmation of either rumored association.

Valve’s Steam Deck OLED page describes a current product. It should not be confused with an unannounced successor: the cited material does not establish a Steam Deck 2’s availability or details. There is not enough verified information to compare a rumored successor or alleged PS6 against current hardware on price, performance, battery life, display or release timing.
Quick Recap

- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
