The server and every client must use the same Minecraft 1.21.1 version, NeoForge loader, Arcana release, and configuration. The procedure below covers a home machine and a managed host, including first startup, networking, updates, backups, and the quickest troubleshooting sequence.

All the Magic – Arcana is an ATMTeam modpack for Minecraft 1.21.1 running on NeoForge. The captured CurseForge release is All the Magic – Arcana-0.13.0, with a corresponding ServerFiles-0.13.0.zip listed as an additional file. Releases can change, so select one release on the CurseForge Files page and use the client archive and server archive from that same release.
A licensed Java Edition account
Mojang’s server software is for Minecraft: Java Edition and requires a compatible Java runtime. Anyone joining should have a licensed Java Edition account and a client installation that matches the server’s pack and loader.

64-bit Java 21
NeoForged’s requirements state that Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer use Java 21 and that NeoForge requires a 64-bit JVM. Arcana targets Minecraft 1.21.1, so install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime and verify it before investigating mods or world files:
java -versionThe output should identify Java 21 and a 64-bit virtual machine. If a host panel lets you choose a Java image, select Java 21 rather than relying on an older system default.

Memory and storage
The general All The Mods server guide uses at least 6 GB of allocated RAM as a baseline for most ATM packs. This is a starting allocation, not an Arcana-specific benchmark or a guaranteed optimum. Leave additional memory for the operating system and other services; do not assign every byte of physical RAM to Java.
You also need enough disk space for the extracted server files, generated world, logs, backups, and future update archives. Keep the server in a dedicated directory so files from another modpack or release cannot be mixed in accidentally.
A connection plan
- Same computer: connect with
localhost. - Home LAN: friends on the same network use the host computer’s private address.
- Internet: configure the operating-system firewall and router/NAT to pass TCP port
25565, unless you deliberately set another port inserver.properties. - Managed hosting: use a provider whose panel accepts the complete CurseForge server pack, offers Java 21, exposes JVM memory controls, and supplies file access and backups.
Where to get the Arcana server pack
- Open the All the Magic – Arcana project’s CurseForge Files page.
- Choose the release you want. For the captured release, the client pack is version
0.13.0. - Open that release’s additional files and download
ServerFiles-0.13.0.zip. For a later release, substitute its exact matching server filename. - Keep the client archive and server archive paired by version. Do not download a server file from one release and a client pack from another.
The official AllTheMods GitHub repository describes itself as the repository and issue tracker for All the Magic – Arcana 1.21.1. It is the appropriate place to check release-specific notices and to report a problem with the version number in the issue title.
Install the server on a home computer
1. Create a clean server directory
Make a new directory used only for Arcana, such as an “Arcana-Server” folder. Avoid installing inside the client’s game directory and avoid reusing a directory that contains another modpack. A clean directory makes updates, backups, and recovery predictable.

2. Extract every server file
Extract the complete contents of ServerFiles-0.13.0.zip into the new directory. Do not leave the files nested inside an extra archive folder if the launcher or host expects the server files in the main directory. On a managed host, upload the complete extracted contents to the host’s main server folder; the All The Mods server guide specifically instructs operators to upload all extracted files.
3. Verify Java before the first launch
Open a terminal or command prompt in the server directory and run:
java -versionCorrect the Java installation or the host’s selected runtime if the command reports a version other than 21 or a 32-bit JVM. Starting with the wrong runtime can prevent NeoForge 1.21.1 from launching and can mislead you into troubleshooting the modpack itself.
4. Set the heap in usr_jvm_args.txt
Open usr_jvm_args.txt in a plain-text editor. Locate the -Xms startup-heap and -Xmx maximum-heap arguments, then adjust their values to provide at least the guide’s 6 GB starting allocation. Preserve the existing argument format and save the file in the server directory. Increase memory only after observing actual performance and confirming that the machine has capacity for the operating system and other applications.
5. Run the supplied launcher once
Start the generated server script or launcher included with the extracted pack. The first run normally creates or updates eula.txt and then stops instead of opening the world. Read the EULA, change:
eula=falseto:
eula=trueSave the file and start the same launcher again. This two-stage first-run sequence is documented by NeoForged.

6. Wait for world generation
Leave the console open while NeoForge loads the mods and generates the world. Initial startup can take substantially longer than later starts because files and chunks are being created. Treat the server as ready only when the console reports that it has finished loading and is accepting players.
7. Stop it cleanly before configuration changes
Use the server console’s normal stop command rather than closing the window or killing the process. A clean stop reduces the chance of a damaged world and ensures configuration changes are written before you edit files.

Same computer
In the Minecraft multiplayer screen, use localhost when the client and server run on the same computer. This does not require router configuration.
Players on the same home network
Give LAN players the host computer’s private IPv4 address. The server must be running, and the host firewall must allow Java or the server process to accept connections on the configured port. A private address is different from the public address shown by an Internet service.
Players outside your home
Mojang identifies TCP 25565 as the default Java server port. If server.properties still uses that default, forward TCP 25565 from the router to the host computer’s private address and allow the same port through the operating-system firewall. If you changed server-port, forward that chosen port instead.
- Assign the host computer a stable private address, using a router reservation where available.
- Create a firewall rule permitting the server’s TCP port.
- Create a router/NAT forwarding rule from the public port to the host’s private address and server port.
- Give trusted players the public address and port. Do not publish a home public IP broadly.
- Have a player outside your network test the connection while the server is running.
Port forwarding cannot overcome carrier-grade NAT, a restrictive provider, or a router that does not permit inbound rules. In those cases, a managed host or another private networking solution may be more practical.

Make every client match the server
Modded servers are not compatible merely because the Minecraft number looks right. Each player should install the same:
- Minecraft version:
1.21.1 - NeoForge loader version required by the selected Arcana release
- Arcana modpack release, such as
0.13.0 - Configuration and default-configuration files supplied by that release
The safest workflow is for everyone to start from the same CurseForge release page and pair the client pack with its matching ServerFiles-<version>.zip. Do not add, remove, or replace mods on one side without documenting the change and applying the same compatible change to the other side.
When asking for help, include the exact release number in the issue title or support request. The official repository asks issue reporters to identify the version, and that detail helps separate a real mod defect from a client/server mismatch.
Home hosting versus managed hosting

When home hosting is a good fit
Choose a home machine when you want complete control, already have suitable hardware, and can administer Java, firewall rules, and backups. It works well for a small trusted group if your upload bandwidth and uptime are sufficient.
When managed hosting is easier
A managed host removes most router administration and can keep the server online independently of your home computer. Before paying, confirm all of the following with the provider:
- It accepts the complete Arcana CurseForge server-pack upload rather than only a limited mod installer.
- Its runtime selection includes 64-bit Java 21.
- The panel exposes
-Xmsand-Xmxor an equivalent RAM control. - You can access the file manager or SFTP so that
usr_jvm_args.txt, configs, logs, and backups are manageable. - Backups, retention periods, restore procedures, storage limits, and player-slot limits are clearly stated.
Back up before updates
NeoForged advises backing up the world before updating NeoForge or mods. For Arcana, make a complete backup of the world and also preserve the server’s configuration state:

- The world directory or directories

Stop the server cleanly, copy the backup to a separate disk or host, and label it with the Arcana and NeoForge versions. Test an update on a copy of the server rather than on the only live world. Keep the previous working archive until the new release has been used successfully by the group.
A safe update sequence
- Announce a maintenance window and stop the running server cleanly.
- Copy the world, configuration directories, properties, and current server files to a dated backup location.
- Download the new client release and its matching
ServerFiles-<version>.zip. - Extract the new server into a separate directory or a clean replacement directory; do not merge unrelated releases.
- Carry over only the settings and manually added content you have verified as compatible.
- Confirm Java 21, memory arguments, and EULA state.
- Start the copy, inspect the console, and let it reach the ready state before inviting players.
- Give every player the matching client release and keep the old archive available for rollback.
Troubleshoot in the shortest reliable order
1. Check Java first
Run java -version in the same environment used by the launcher. Confirm Java 21 and 64-bit support. On a managed host, check the panel’s selected image rather than only the Java version on your own computer.
2. Compare versions on both sides
Confirm the server and every client use the same Arcana release, Minecraft 1.21.1, and NeoForge loader. A client that can launch by itself can still fail to join a server built from a different release.
3. Recheck the first-run files
Open eula.txt and confirm it contains eula=true. Reopen usr_jvm_args.txt to ensure the heap values were saved with valid syntax. If the launcher stops immediately, read the first meaningful error in the console before changing several settings at once.
4. Check memory and disk
Verify that the machine can supply the allocation in usr_jvm_args.txt while leaving room for the operating system. Also check free disk space for the world, logs, and backups. If the server starts but becomes unstable under load, observe actual resource use before increasing the heap.

If the console never reaches a ready state, focus on Java, EULA, files, memory, and the first startup error. If the server is ready but players cannot join, focus on the address, firewall, router/NAT rule, and configured port.
6. Verify the port and address
Use localhost only on the server computer, the private address for LAN players, and the public address plus forwarded port for Internet players. Recheck server.properties if the port was changed from 25565.
7. Use the official issue tracker with version details
After the checks above, search or file a version-tagged issue in the official AllTheMods Arcana repository. Include the Arcana release, Minecraft and NeoForge versions, Java version, operating system or host environment, and the first relevant console error. Avoid posting a home public IP or other private connection details.

- Dedicated directory contains only the chosen Arcana server release.
- Client pack and

Final recommendation
For most groups, begin with a clean installation of the matching Arcana server archive, Java 21, and the All The Mods guide’s 6 GB RAM baseline. Prove that the server reaches a ready state locally before adding router rules or inviting remote players. Once the first world is stable, document the port, back up the world and configs, and treat every modpack update as a versioned migration rather than an overwrite.
