The release also revises that menu and improves its scaling on macOS. These are the changes specific to 26.3; several features associated with Modeler 26 arrived as part of the broader 26 release.
What changed in Modeler 26.3?
The headline change is a dedicated tool search engine. It searches tools across OBJ, SOP and LOP nodes, rather than relying on typing to search from the context menu. CG Channel also reports visual changes to the context menu and improved scaling on macOS. CG Channel’s Modeler 26.3 coverage mentions PolyPen changes in 26.1 and 26.3, but does not detail what those changes involve.

Some features often discussed alongside 26.3 were introduced in the wider Modeler 26 release, rather than being unique to this point update. The broader release included:
#1 Best Overall
- Additional PolyPen functionality
- Draw Cards
- Bezier Deform
- A Layers panel
- Support for open curves in Boolean operations
These additions are described in CG Channel’s coverage and DIGITAL PRODUCTION’s February 2026 article. They provide context for the Modeler 26 generation, but should not be read as a list of features newly added in 26.3.
Is 26.3 the latest reported version?
No. CG Channel reports a later Modeler 26.5 update dated October 5, 2026. That update is reported to add Houdini 22 compatibility and changes to subdivision modeling, including a SubD Proxy mode, a reworked Crease tool and a Holes tool. Alexey Vanzhula described the 26.5 subdivision changes as making “models build faster, and working with subdivision geometry has become convenient and predictable,” as quoted by CG Channel. That statement concerns 26.5, not the 26.3 search-engine release.
Accordingly, 26.3 is the version addressed here, but it is not the latest version reported by that source as of October 5, 2026. Check the creator’s page for current downloads and version details.

What is Modeler, and what does it require?
Modeler is Alexey Vanzhula’s paid Houdini add-on for creating and editing polygonal and subdivision meshes. The creator presents it as a modeling environment with mesh-editing tools, selection features and interactive editing. The creator’s Modeler page says Modeler 26 requires Houdini 21 or later and lists compatibility with Houdini Indie, Core, FX, Education and Apprentice.
Rank #2
That stated requirement is for Modeler 26. Confirm the current product page and the specific Modeler version’s compatibility information before purchasing or installing; the available coverage does not establish compatibility on any particular machine or Houdini build.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What do the licenses cost?
Reported prices vary by source and may change. The creator’s page lists a Standard Floating License at $100+ and a Studio License at $500+. CG Channel reports individual floating and Studio prices of $100 and $500. DIGITAL PRODUCTION reported £100 for an individual purchase and £50 for an upgrade in February 2026. These figures reflect different listings and publication contexts, not a single guaranteed current price. Check the creator’s page for current prices, license terms and upgrade eligibility before buying.
How to assess whether the update fits your workflow
If you are deciding whether Modeler 26.3 is relevant to your Houdini work, focus on the parts of the workflow the release actually changes:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Tool discovery: Consider whether searching across OBJ, SOP and LOP contexts addresses a real friction point in your work.
- Menu use: The context-menu revision and macOS scaling improvement may matter if menu readability or usability is an issue in your setup.
- Broader modeling features: Evaluate the wider Modeler 26 features separately; they are not all 26.3 additions.
- Compatibility and licensing: Check the current creator listing for the exact Houdini version, edition, license type, seat rules and upgrade terms you need.
The release descriptions are product claims and trade coverage, not machine-specific testing. They do not establish installation results, stability, performance or compatibility on an individual workstation.
