For an unexpected active session, say “Hang Up.” If the indicator keeps returning, check Alexa voice history and review Drop In or Communications settings for that Echo.
What the green light means
Amazon distinguishes the two green-light patterns by motion. A pulsing or flashing light signals an incoming call; a spinning light indicates an active call or Drop In. The actions differ, so identify the pattern before changing settings. Amazon Help’s green-light troubleshooting guide covers these call and Drop In remedies. Its Echo speaker light guide also describes pulsing green for a received call and spinning green for an active call or Drop In.

| Light pattern | What it indicates | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Flashing or pulsing green | An incoming call | Say “Answer Call” if you want to take it, or let it pass. |
| Spinning green | An active call or Drop In | Say “Hang Up” to end the session. |
How to stop an unexpected spinning green light
- Say “Hang Up.” A spinning light means a call or Drop In is active. Amazon recommends this voice command when you did not expect the session.
- Check Alexa voice history. Look for a request that Alexa may have misheard as a command to call someone or start Drop In. This can help identify what triggered the session.
- Turn off Drop In or Communications for that device. If unwanted sessions recur, disable Drop In or turn off Communications for the affected Alexa device. Change the setting for the Echo involved rather than assuming all devices need the same change.
If the light is flashing or pulsing
A flashing or pulsing green light is an incoming call, not an active call that needs to be hung up. If you recognize and want the call, say “Answer Call.” Otherwise, you can let it pass. If calls arrive unexpectedly, review voice history and the affected device’s Drop In or Communications settings to address unwanted sessions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the green light stays on after you end the session
Amazon’s green-light troubleshooting page does not document a separate fix for an indicator that remains after the call or Drop In has ended. If the Echo is also intermittent or unresponsive, Amazon’s general guidance supports restarting it: unplug the device or its power adapter, then reconnect it. That is general troubleshooting for an unresponsive or intermittent device, not a guaranteed remedy for a green call indicator. Amazon’s restart guidance explains that broader step.

Model scope
Amazon’s general Echo speaker light guide says its indicator explanations apply to Alexa+ and the original Alexa, but Amazon provides separate indicator guidance for some newer Alexa+ devices and Echo models with screens. The exact behavior may therefore vary by model; the call and Drop In actions above are documented in Amazon’s Echo green-light troubleshooting guidance.
