Aldi’s Expressi Coffee Capsule Machine was named the winner of Canstar Blue’s 2024 Most Satisfied Customer Award for Coffee Pod Machines. That is a genuine customer-satisfaction result, not proof that the current Expressi makes Australia’s best-tasting coffee or is the most reliable machine available in 2026.
The buying decision now depends on the exact model, capsule availability, current prices and your tolerance for mixed reliability reports.
What Aldi actually won
Canstar Blue’s 2024 Most Satisfied Customer Awards named Aldi Expressi the winner in the Coffee Pod Machine category. Contemporary coverage said it beat brands including Nespresso and De’Longhi, and was the only machine in the category to receive five stars for overall customer satisfaction and value for money.
The reported assessment covered customer opinions about value, performance, ease of use, features and functionality, cleaning, satisfaction and design. “Best” therefore means the highest-rated customer experience in that 2024 award category. It does not mean the machine won an expert-panel taste test, a laboratory reliability test or a universal 2026 ranking.
Price and availability in 2026
Aldi’s current product page listed the Expressi Coffee Capsule Machine at $78.99 when checked on 18 August 2026. Aldi says prices, stock and product details vary by store and location, and products may be available only while stocks last. Check the current product listing before travelling to a store.
Many Expressi 16-packs were listed at $7.99 on Aldi’s brand page—about 50 cents per capsule. The award announcement used an older price of $6.79 for 16 (about 42 cents each), which should not be treated as today’s price. At one 50-cent capsule each day, the capsule portion is about $182 a year, before milk, electricity and wastage. For context, CHOICE says pod prices across the market are roughly 36 to 95 cents each. Which Expressi machine is this?
“Aldi Expressi” is a family of machines, not one unchanged product. CHOICE lists the newer Aldi Expressi Multi-Beverage Capsule Machine EXP-19CCMB with these specifications:

CHOICE’s technical listing is at EXP-19CCMB. Aldi’s award announcement describes an Expressi model with three adjustable beverage buttons, a 0.8-litre tank, a 19-bar pump, a used-capsule container holding up to 10 capsules and automatic shut-off. The 0.7-litre and 0.8-litre figures should not be silently merged: they may reflect model variation, nominal versus usable capacity, or different editions.
Check the model number printed on the box and manual before using specifications or reviews to predict your experience. A 19-bar rating is a hardware specification, not evidence of better extraction or taste.
Capsule compatibility is the biggest limitation
Expressi is its own capsule ecosystem. Aldi says Expressi pods are intended for Aldi Expressi machines and are not compatible with other pod-machine systems. They are not automatically interchangeable with Nespresso Original, Nespresso Vertuo or Caffitaly capsules. Nespresso Original and Vertuo are also different systems from each other.
Some third-party Urban Brew capsules are described by CHOICE as compatible with Aldi Expressi, Nespresso Original and Caffitaly System machines, but compatibility depends on the exact capsule and machine design. Read the wording on the capsule box and the machine manual before buying in bulk; never assume that a capsule labelled “compatible” fits every generation.

Aldi’s range includes regular, decaffeinated, flavoured and hot-chocolate options, but store stock and special-buy timing can restrict access. If you cannot conveniently reach Aldi or order suitable capsules, the low machine price may not be good value. Compatibility and availability information is discussed by Aldi and CHOICE.
What the award does—and does not—tell you about coffee
Customer awards measure an ownership experience: perceived value, convenience, operation and satisfaction. They do not establish the best flavour, temperature consistency, milk texture or long-term failure rate. CHOICE says its own coffee-machine testing considers taste, ease of use, milk frothing and temperature consistency, although detailed ratings are member-only. Its buying guide explains that pod machines trade the control of fresh grinding for speed and consistency.
Aldi’s descriptions of “rich”, “aromatic” or “café-quality” coffee are marketing claims. Taste will vary with the blend, capsule freshness, programmed volume, cup size and milk. The listed machine needs a separate frother for milk drinks, so it is less convenient than an integrated latte system. Coffee enthusiasts who want control over beans, grind and dose may prefer a manual espresso machine or bean-to-cup model.
Why buyers liked Expressi
- Low entry price: the current listed $78.99 is substantially below many branded capsule machines.
- Simple operation: push-button drinks require little preparation or cleanup.
- Compact footprint: the EXP-19CCMB is only 12 cm wide according to CHOICE.
- Low capsule price: the current listed 16-pack price works out to about 50 cents per drink before extras.
- Choice within Aldi’s range: options include decaf, flavoured coffees and hot chocolate.
- Strong 2024 satisfaction result: customers rated it highly for overall satisfaction and value in Canstar Blue’s award.
Why some owners regret buying it
ProductReview’s page for the EXP-19CCMB showed 1.9/5 from 45 reviews when accessed, with 78% negative reviews in its displayed breakdown. Users reported leaking, failed pod piercing, jams, noise, vibration, inconsistent operation and early breakdowns. These are anecdotal reports, not a controlled failure-rate study, and they may describe a newer model than the one covered by the 2024 award.

ProductReview’s broader Aldi category page showed the general Aldi Expressi Machine at 3.5/5, while older Cube and Wave pages contain different experiences. Do not use older reviews as proof that the current EXP-19CCMB is reliable—or use the newer complaints to declare that every Expressi is defective. Compare the review page with the exact model number on the box: EXP-19CCMB reviews, Aldi category reviews, older March 2019 model and older May 2019 model.
If a pod jams, leaks or will not pierce
- Stop the cycle if pressure builds or water leaks.
- Unplug the machine if you notice an electrical or burning smell.
- Follow the manual’s cleaning and descaling instructions.
- Do not force the lever, put fingers near piercing blades or pre-puncture capsules.
- For repeated jams, leaks or pump faults, return the machine or use the warranty process rather than attempting an informal repair.
Warranty and ownership checks
Before paying, photograph or record the model number, keep the receipt and read the warranty terms supplied with that exact product. CHOICE’s guide reported a two-year warranty for an earlier Aldi Expressi Multi Beverage model, but that should not be assumed to be the current EXP-19CCMB warranty. Confirm the current term, claim channel and return procedure with Aldi or the packaging.
A cheap machine that requires repeated replacements, lengthy trips to a store or hard-to-find capsules can cost more in time and inconvenience than its sticker price suggests.

How it compares with alternatives
Nespresso Original
Original machines offer a broader selection of branded and third-party capsules and are sold by more machine brands, but usually cost more to buy and run. They suit shoppers who value capsule availability and variety.

Nespresso Vertuo
Vertuo uses a separate proprietary format and is compatible with neither Expressi nor Nespresso Original capsules. It is aimed at people who want larger coffee formats within that ecosystem.
Caffitaly and Grinders systems
These use another capsule ecosystem. Compatibility with Expressi must be checked for the exact capsule and machine; it should never be assumed.
Manual or bean-to-cup machines
They generally cost more and require more cleaning or learning, but provide greater control over beans, grind, dose and milk. They are better suited to enthusiasts or households making several drinks a day.
Who should buy the Aldi Expressi?
It makes sense for an Aldi regular who wants quick espresso-style drinks, a very low upfront price and inexpensive Expressi capsules, and who accepts a restricted pod system and the possibility of using Aldi’s returns or warranty process.

Choose another system if you need broad supermarket and online capsule choice, Nespresso compatibility, integrated milk preparation, independently published transparent test scores, heavy-duty reliability with little tolerance for returns, or freshly ground coffee.
Before purchase, check the exact model number, current warranty, capsule stock at stores you can reach, water-tank and frother setup, recent reviews for that model and your annual capsule cost. The award is genuine—but it belongs to 2024 customer satisfaction, not a blanket 2026 claim that Expressi is Australia’s best pod machine.
