He made the claim as the SP was seeking support to field a third candidate for the Rajya Sabha, according to a Hindustan Times report published October 1, 2026, and updated October 2. The report does not name anyone who had personally sought to rejoin.
What Akhilesh Yadav said about ‘ghar wapsi’
At a press conference at the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow on October 1, Yadav said: “Some of our people who had switched sides now want to come back because they are not satisfied with the saffron camp.” Hindustan Times attributed the remark to Yadav. No separate transcript or recording was available to independently verify the event or wording.
“Ghar wapsi” is the headline’s shorthand for Yadav’s assertion that some former SP members wanted to return. It is not evidence that a particular former member had applied, agreed to rejoin, or publicly confirmed such an intention.
Why the remark came up: SP was weighing a third Rajya Sabha candidate
The press conference followed the SP’s announcement of Ram Gopal Yadav and Dhanraj Nathwani as Rajya Sabha nominees the previous day, according to Hindustan Times. Akhilesh Yadav said the party would announce a third candidate once it had sufficient support. He was quoted as saying: “Very soon we will have the required numbers; we are on it. Any such exercise needs a lot of patience as you have to speak with and convince people.”

Jobs and proposals for younger people
