Choose AION 2 Mode if you prefer an aim-centered view with the cursor hidden during ordinary play. Choose AION 1 Mode if you want a persistent cursor for click-to-move and direct mouse target selection. The official guide identifies AION 2 Mode as the default, but neither mode is shown to be universally better; try both and keep the one that suits your movement and camera habits.
How the two control modes differ
NCSOFT Taiwan’s official PC Controls guide labels the options “AION2 Mode (aim type)” and “AION1 Mode (click type).” In practical terms, the main difference is how you use the mouse during play:

The official guide identifies AION 2 Mode as the default and says you can switch modes with a shortcut. The guide page exposes limited readable text, so consult the in-game controls if you need the exact current shortcut or want to confirm how it behaves in your version.
Which mode should you try first?
Start with AION 2 Mode if you are new
It is the official guide’s default, and its hidden-cursor behavior suits players who want to keep the view focused on play rather than on a pointer. NCSOFT described AION 2’s direction as “Manual combat controls that offer skill-based, action-packed gameplay” in its June 4, 2025 announcement. That description provides context for the aim-type option, but it is not a claim that AION 2 Mode outperforms AION 1 Mode.

Try AION 1 Mode if you rely on the cursor
Use it if you want to click a destination, select a target with the mouse, or keep the pointer active without invoking it for each interaction. Its drag-to-rotate behavior may also feel more familiar if you prefer controlling the view with the mouse while using the cursor.
Decide by testing your own movement and camera flow
- Begin in AION 2 Mode, the default listed by the official guide.
- Play long enough to notice whether hidden-cursor movement and camera control feel natural.
- Switch to AION 1 Mode using the in-game shortcut or control setting, then test click-to-move and direct target selection.
- Keep the mode that makes movement, target selection, and UI access feel comfortable. Switch back if the persistent pointer or click-driven movement interrupts your play.
The available official sources do not publish a controlled comparison of accuracy, damage, or player preference, so there is no evidence-based universal winner. A secondary AION 2 controls guide says AION 1 Mode does not allow rebinding the left and right mouse buttons; that limitation is not established by the official guide, so check your current key settings before treating it as decisive.
