A working first version shows that an AI tool can generate an app; it does not show that the app will be easy to change without breaking something. “Change #20” is a useful stress test, not a proven failure point: the available evidence does not identify a particular edit count at which AI-generated apps become unreliable.
Why the first working version is only the beginning
Generating a screen or a basic workflow is different from evolving software. Later changes can affect existing behavior, introduce new dependencies, or make the code harder to understand. A successful first run does not, by itself, establish that those changes will be safe.

That distinction matters whether the code comes from an AI assistant, a person, or a combination of both. Google Research’s “Technical Debt in the AI Era” argues that technical-debt management remains relevant as software is created through varied human and tool-assisted workflows. It is conceptual guidance, not a measured comparison proving that one kind of code is always easier to maintain.

What “change #20” does—and does not—mean
The twentieth change is a memorable way to ask whether an app can keep adapting. It is not a research-backed threshold. The material available does not establish that apps generally break on their twentieth edit, or that quality declines at a fixed rate as changes accumulate.

A Springer Nature journal article titled “Echoes of AI” identifies later manual evolution as an empirical question: whether code developed with AI assistants has higher quality when people subsequently modify it. That question remains distinct from a universal rule about how many edits an app can withstand.
What current evidence says about AI-generated code
Evidence about AI-assisted development points to issues worth managing, but it does not settle how every individual app will perform. A 2026 eu-LISA technology-monitoring report says coding assistants may support productivity gains while highlighting quality and security concerns. It calls for ongoing evaluation and sufficient review resources; that is a cautious public-sector assessment, not proof that AI-generated apps are inherently poor quality.

- EVOLUTION AMD RYZEN AI MAX+ 395 MINI PC - GMKtec EVO-X2 is the next evolution in AI mini PC Ryzen Strix Halo series. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) the core-count is effectively doubled, to 32 threads. Ryzen AI Max+ 395 has 64 MB of L3 cache and can boost up to 5.1 GHz, depending on the workload. The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is currently rated as the "most powerful x86 APU" on the market for AI computing.
- AI NPU with XDNA 2 ARCHITECTURE - Powered by 16 “Zen 5” CPU cores, 50+ peak AI TOPS XDNA 2 NPU and a truly massive integrated GPU driven by 40 AMD RDNA 3.5 CUs, the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 is a transformative upgrade and delivers a significant performance boost over the competition. The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 excels in consumer AI workloads like the llama.cpp-powered application: LM Studio. Shaping up to be the must-have app for client LLM workloads, LM Studio allows users to locally run the latest language model without any technical knowledge required and unleash their creativity and productivity.
- AMD RADEON 8090S iGPU GAMING PC - The AMD Radeon RX 8060S offers all 40 CUs with up to 2.9 GHz graphics clock and uses the new RDNA 3.5 architecture. The powerful iGPU is positioned between an RTX 4060 and 4070 laptop GPU and therefore enables gaming in FHD at maximum details in most demanding games. The 8060S can also utilize the full 64GB pool, which is perfect for running LLMs such as Deepseek 32B, which runs comfortably on this machine.
- EIGHT CHANNEL LPDDR5X - LPDDR5X is a new ground breaking memory small form factor installed on-board. With blazing speeds up to to 8000MT/s, it runs 1.5x faster than the DDR5 SODIMMs; 90% better performance over DDR5 SODIMMs in video conferencing and photo editing; 30% better performance in productivity apps; 4% better performance in digital content workloads.
- QUAD SCREEN 8K DISPLAY SUPPORT - EVO-X2 AI Mini PC support 4-screen 4K/8K output via HDMI 2.1 (8K@60Hz), DisplayPort 1.4 (4K@60Hz), and dual USB 4 40Gbps Transfer speed (supporting PD3.0/DP1.4/DATA). Ideal for gaming, video editing, and multitasking, it provides expansive and crisp multi-display support.
The Software Improvement Group’s 2026 report page summarizes its finding as roughly double the security-risk violations in AI-generated code compared with human-written code. The page summary does not provide enough methodological detail to interpret the figure’s sample, definition of a violation, or uncertainty here. It should not be read as the probability that an individual app will be breached, and it says nothing about a twentieth change.

For a meaningful change, write down the expected behavior in plain language before editing. Afterward, judge the result against that expectation and the app’s existing behavior—not just whether the new screen appears to work.

- Keep the change understandable. Make its purpose clear and small enough that you can inspect the files it touches and understand the resulting diff.
- Review the diff and dependencies. Check which files changed, whether new packages or versions were added, and whether the logic does what you intended. Pay particular attention when a change affects authentication, permissions, or data handling.
- Run relevant tests and build checks. GitHub’s GitHub Actions guidance describes how CI workflows can run repeatable checks and report whether a branch introduces errors. Passing checks are useful evidence about the cases those checks cover, not proof of correctness for every user or situation.
- Use a review step before merging. A pull request or equivalent review can record why a change is needed, expose its diff, surface concerns, and show automated-check results. See GitHub’s overview of pull requests.
- Inspect security findings rather than assuming generated additions are safe. Review changes to dependencies and any security alerts they trigger. GitHub documents dependency and security review options in its Dependabot quickstart.
- Repeat checks after updates. If a fix or review leads to more commits, run the checks again and verify the expected behavior against the updated version. GitHub explains how to review changes in pull requests.
These steps make problems easier to notice; they do not guarantee safety. Tests may miss cases, and human or automated review can overlook defects. A green test suite means the checks passed for the scenarios they exercise—not that the app is secure, correct in every circumstance, or easy to maintain.
A practical rubric for each meaningful edit
Instead of counting changes, compare versions on observable questions. This is a working review rubric, not a validated scoring system.
- Does the new version implement the behavior you requested?
- Does existing expected behavior still pass its relevant tests?
- Can you understand the diff and explain the changed logic?
- Do the build and automated checks pass?
- Were security-sensitive behavior and dependency changes reviewed?
If you cannot explain what changed or why the checks are sufficient for the affected behavior, treat that as a signal to investigate—not as evidence that a particular edit number has been reached.
