Codex Security is a separate research-preview workflow for scanning repositories and commits, while Anthropic’s Claude Security is a code-scanning and remediation tool. These are not interchangeable: one is an access program, the others are software workflows, and none should be treated as an unrestricted penetration-testing service.
How the options differ
The practical distinction is whether you need controlled access to advanced capabilities or a tool that helps review and remediate code. The programs below have different eligibility rules, scopes, and levels of product maturity.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
| Option | What it is and who can access it | Workflow and safeguards | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anthropic Cyber Verification Program (CVP) | A verified, tiered access program for qualifying security professionals. Anthropic says applicants must demonstrate security controls appropriate to the requested tier. It is available on Claude Platform, Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry. Amazon Bedrock access is limited to customers eligible for Enterprise Frontier Safeguards. | Provides access to advanced capabilities with reduced blocking classifiers, subject to tier-based controls. Anthropic says generally available models retain conservative safeguards. | Anthropic’s October 2026 announcement describes the expanded program. Access is conditional, not universal. |
| OpenAI Daybreak | A program spanning models, trusted access, Codex Security workflows, and ecosystem partners. The official access structure has standard, Blue, and Red levels. Blue and Red require additional approval; GPT-5.6-Cyber has a separate additional model-approval requirement. | Blue covers approved defensive work, including secure code review, vulnerability triage, detection engineering, incident response, malware analysis, and patch validation. Red is for advanced authorized work, including penetration testing, red teaming, exploit validation or development, and controlled vulnerability research. | OpenAI’s access guidance makes clear that advanced testing is gated. Daybreak is not permission to test systems without authorization. |
| OpenAI Codex Security | A research-preview code-security workflow within the Daybreak offering, not a standalone access tier. | Analyzes repositories and commits, attempts to validate potential findings in an isolated sandbox, and proposes Codex-generated patches for human review. | OpenAI reports preview activity and benchmark results, but those measures do not establish independent accuracy on arbitrary production code. |
| Anthropic Claude Security | A software tool Anthropic describes as generally available, distinct from CVP’s controlled access to advanced capabilities. | Reasons about code to scan for vulnerabilities, validate findings, and propose targeted patches. | It is a code-scanning and remediation workflow, not an alternative access program for advanced vulnerability research. |
Which option fits the work?
For approved defensive security work
Daybreak’s Blue access is the closest match when the goal is defensive tasks such as reviewing code, triaging vulnerabilities, improving detection, responding to incidents, analyzing malware, or validating patches. Approval is required for Blue access.

For controlled vulnerability research or advanced testing
Daybreak’s Red access is the more relevant route for authorized penetration testing, red teaming, exploit validation or development, and controlled vulnerability research. Red requires additional approval, and access to GPT-5.6-Cyber has a further, separate approval requirement. Anthropic CVP is another gated route for qualifying security professionals, with access and required controls determined by tier and platform.

For repository scanning and patch assistance
Codex Security is aimed at codebase and commit analysis, sandbox validation attempts, and patch suggestions that a person reviews. Claude Security is aimed at scanning code, validating findings, and proposing targeted fixes. Both are workflow products; neither is a substitute for approval to test a system or for a researcher’s responsibility to verify a finding and its fix.
For critical infrastructure initiatives
Project Glasswing is a controlled Anthropic initiative focused on critical infrastructure and foundational software. Anthropic describes partner access for work including vulnerability detection, binary testing, endpoint security, and penetration testing. It provides context for Anthropic’s managed-access strategy, not an unrestricted commercial product or a general application route equivalent to CVP.

How to interpret the vendors’ results
The published figures measure different things, so they cannot support a reliable side-by-side ranking.
- Anthropic’s vulnerability totals: Anthropic reported at least 129,000 verified software vulnerabilities from Project Glasswing partners between April and July 2026, plus an additional 5,500 verified vulnerabilities from its own open-source scanning efforts between April and October 2026. It said more than 33,000 were rated critical or high. Anthropic characterized these partner figures as partial lower bounds that may significantly undercount results; fewer than half of partners disclosed patched numbers, often because fixes were still in progress.
- Codex Security preview activity: In its June 2026 Daybreak announcement, OpenAI said the preview had scanned over 30 million commits across more than 30,000 codebases. It separately reported that human reviewers marked more than 70,000 findings fixed and automated systems determined more than 500,000 findings fixed. These are company-reported activity and status counts, not an independent measure of accuracy or security impact.
- Codex Security benchmark: OpenAI’s 2025 announcement, later updated to say Aardvark became Codex Security, reported identifying 92% of known and synthetically introduced vulnerabilities in tests on “golden” repositories. That is a vendor-reported result in a particular benchmark setting; it does not establish 92% detection in arbitrary production code.
There is no established independent, reproducible, same-task comparison across the named offerings. In particular, vulnerability totals, scanning throughput, fixed-finding counts, and benchmark identification rates have different denominators and methods.

Authorization and safeguards are part of the choice
Anthropic describes cybersecurity as inherently dual use: “the same capabilities that enable a security team to find and fix a vulnerability can also help a malicious actor exploit it.” OpenAI’s Daybreak guidance limits testing to systems and data that users own, operate, or are explicitly authorized to test. Before using any advanced capability, define the authorized assets and scope, ensure the required approvals and organizational controls are in place, and keep human review in the loop for findings and patches.
