An AI detector estimates whether a passage resembles patterns associated with AI-generated or AI-altered writing; it cannot prove who wrote it. Lynote presents its detector and AI Humanizer as a connected review workflow, but neither a detector score nor a rewrite is a dependable authorship test. Treat results as prompts to inspect the text, not verdicts.
How does an AI detector work?
AI detectors look for statistical or stylistic patterns associated with generated text. Lynote says its detector examines word choice, sentence rhythm, predictability, and structure, then returns AI-generated, human-written, or mixed classifications with sentence-level highlights. These are Lynote’s descriptions of its product, not independently verified measurements of accuracy. Lynote’s AI Detector page also says it supports 50+ languages and that submitted content is not used to train its detection models. Those are vendor claims, not independent language-coverage or privacy audits.

Lynote’s public Hugging Face demo describes a lightweight heuristic approach that checks for uniform sentence rhythm, formulaic phrases, repeated n-grams or sentence starters, and uniform vocabulary. Its README cautions that scores are probabilistic and that short, translated, or heavily edited text can be misjudged. That explanation applies to the public demo; it should not be assumed to fully describe Lynote’s commercial detector. Lynote’s public demo puts the limitation plainly: “A score is a probabilistic signal, not proof of authorship.”
A detector’s score is not necessarily the percentage of words written by AI. Unless a product explicitly defines a score that way, read it only as that product’s estimate or classification. Different detectors may also disagree because they use different methods and thresholds.

Can an AI detector tell if something was written by ChatGPT?
It may identify patterns it associates with AI-generated text, but a result cannot establish that ChatGPT—or any particular system—wrote a passage. A detector can misclassify human writing, and editing, translation, or paraphrasing can change the patterns it sees.
Turnitin’s institutional guidance makes the distinction between a signal and proof explicit. Its Using the AI Writing Report guide says: “Our AI writing detection model may not always be accurate (it may misidentify human-written, AI-generated, and AI-paraphrased text), so it should not be used as the sole basis for adverse actions against a student.” Turnitin calls for further scrutiny and human judgment alongside institutional policy. That warning is about Turnitin’s report, but it is a useful caution against treating detector output as conclusive evidence.

What should you do if your writing gets flagged as AI?
Start with the writing and its history, not with an attempt to force a score down. A flag is a reason to review the passage; it is not proof of misconduct.

- Keep evidence of your process. If authorship is questioned, drafts, notes, version history, research records, and assignment instructions can help explain how the work developed. Follow the relevant school or publisher process and policy.
- Ask how the result was produced. Find out which tool was used, what text it analyzed, and what its result means. Do not assume that a displayed score represents a percentage of AI-written words.
- Request human review when the stakes are serious. A detector result alone should not settle a consequential decision. Turnitin’s guidance specifically warns against using its report as the sole basis for adverse action against a student.
Does Lynote’s AI Detector work with its Humanizer?
Lynote presents the tools as parts of one text-review workflow: use the detector’s sentence highlights to identify passages for attention, revise for clarity and a more natural voice with the AI Humanizer if appropriate, and review the final output. Lynote’s product page advises users to check that output themselves. Lynote’s AI Humanizer is described as rewriting AI-heavy text, but the available product description does not establish that it will preserve exact meaning in every case or reliably evade independent detectors.

Lynote’s open-source humanizer repository describes an early-2026 reference pipeline and makes comparisons with the current Lynote product. Those comparisons are vendor-authored and are not independently validated in the cited material; the repository itself says detector scores are probabilistic and does not guarantee a human classification after rewriting.
Can a humanizer make AI writing undetectable?
No reliable guarantee is established. Rewriting may alter features a detector evaluates, but results vary by text, tool, and detector. A humanizer should be used to improve clarity or voice, not as a promise that writing will pass a detector or as a substitute for complying with disclosure or authorship rules.

Published findings underscore that uncertainty. A 2025 paper by Elyas Masrour and Bradley Emi studied 19 humanizer and paraphrasing tools and reported that many existing detectors failed to identify humanized text; the work also presented a model intended to improve robustness. Its results concern the tools and methods studied, not Lynote’s current product. The 2025 study should not be read as a universal evasion rate.
A separate 2023 study examining 12 public tools and two commercial systems concluded that the evaluated tools were not accurate or reliable overall and that obfuscation worsened performance. These findings are specific to that study’s systems and conditions; they do not establish a timeless accuracy rate for all detectors or humanizers. The 2023 study record offers context, not a score for Lynote.

What is the difference between an AI detector and a plagiarism checker?
A plagiarism checker looks for text that matches sources in its comparison database. An AI detector estimates whether writing resembles patterns associated with generated or AI-altered text. The first asks whether text overlaps with known material; the second makes a probabilistic classification about writing patterns. Neither result, on its own, proves intent or authorship, and one tool does not replace the other.
Why do detector requirements differ?
Input limits and language support belong to individual products, not to AI detection as a whole. Turnitin’s guide says its report covers qualifying long-form prose, requires at least 300 words, and accepts up to 30,000 words. It lists English, Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic support; only its English detector includes detection of AI paraphrasing and bypasser tools. These are Turnitin-specific conditions, not requirements for Lynote or every detector. Turnitin’s guide is the source for those limits.
