A website generated in an hour can be a useful starting point. A professional quote may cover more than producing a first draft: planning, content, design decisions, revisions, testing, launch and ongoing care. Compare the written scope and recurring costs with what your AI-built site already does; elapsed build time alone cannot show whether a quote is fair. Without the quote’s details and your location, no one can reliably judge a particular price.
1. What exactly is included in the quoted fee?
Ask for a written list of deliverables, not just a page count or the label “custom website.” Agencies may bundle discovery workshops, a sitemap, wireframes, original visual design, copywriting, revisions, project management and the build, but those are possible inclusions—not a standard package. A 2026 pricing guide from we.inc describes these elements as part of agency work; your proposal should say which apply to your project.

Broad published prices can orient you, but they are not a verdict on a specific bid. Umair Ali Sadaqat’s we.inc guide, updated September 26, 2026, reports US-dollar ranges that vary by scope and location: $0–$300 for a template; $1,000–$5,000 for a freelancer in its summary (with separate tier-table ranges of $500–$1,500 for template customization and $1,500–$5,000 for custom design across 5–10 pages); and $5,000–$30,000+ for an agency in its summary (with separate tier-table bands of $5,000–$15,000 for a small agency and $15,000–$50,000+ for an established agency). It also reports $30–$150 hourly for freelance designers and roughly $100–$250 in blended agency rates. These source-specific bands do not resolve into one precise market average, and hourly rates do not tell you the total project cost. See the guide and its scope and location caveats.

2. What do you need from me, and what will I need to review?
Find out who supplies the business facts, wording, photographs, logo and approvals—and who checks them. AI builders can generate layouts and may produce text and images, but editing is commonly needed to fit a particular business and brand, according to TechRadar’s 2026 comparison of AI website builders. A fast draft can save time without being ready to publish.
Ask the provider to identify the decisions and materials they expect from you, and the review points where you must approve content or design. In a July 2026 TechRadar interview about AI-generated applications and agency work, Itai Sadan, Duda’s CEO and co-founder, recommended professional quality review before launch. That is his advice in an interview, not a rule that every site requires an extensive review process. Read the interview with Sadan.

3. What happens after launch, and who is responsible?
A page that looks finished is not the same as a clear plan for operating it. Ask what your quote or subscription covers, what remains your responsibility and what triggers extra charges. Depending on the site, the relevant tasks may include hosting, domain renewal, security, updates, backups, monitoring, support and content changes; establish which ones actually apply rather than assuming every project needs every service.
Confirm who owns or controls the domain, site files and accounts, how you can access them, and what happens if you leave the provider. Also pin down support expectations and whether maintenance is included or billed separately. In the same TechRadar interview, Sadan said: “The technical debt challenge with AI-generated applications usually isn’t the code itself. It’s everything required to run and maintain that application over time.” His point is that operating responsibilities can outlast a working prototype—not that every small website carries the same burden.

4. How will you check that the site works for its purpose?
Agree on practical acceptance checks before work begins: do the pages and forms work, is the site usable on mobile, can you access the necessary accounts, and are the agreed features in place? If the project has a business goal, define how you will assess it rather than treating a visual launch as proof of success.
For search visibility, ask for specific work rather than a ranking promise. Google’s developer guidance covers crawlability, indexable content, links, sitemaps, descriptive page information and accessible text as relevant technical considerations. Meeting technical requirements does not guarantee that Google will index or serve a page. Google’s SEO Guide for Web Developers explains the technical considerations, while Google Search Essentials sets out its requirements and makes clear that compliance does not guarantee ranking. Compare concrete tasks and reporting against outcome claims; no provider can promise a particular organic position.

Make the comparison on scope, not stopwatch time
Put the AI option and the proposal side by side, using the same intended outcome. Include any recurring subscription, hosting or care costs as well as the upfront fee. A higher quote is not automatically justified, and an AI-generated site is not automatically inadequate: the deciding question is what you receive, what you must still do, and whether that work is worth the cost for your needs.
