Businesses are expanding access to AI tools, and employers report rising demand for AI skills—but those trends do not yet prove a broad surge in agentic AI hiring or completed agent deployments. Deloitte found that sanctioned AI-tool access had reached around 60% of workers in its survey, while 57% of respondents to a UK government survey said they planned to adopt agentic AI within three years. The figures measure different things: access is not deployment, and a plan is not a completed rollout.
Are businesses rapidly adopting AI?
There is evidence of wider workplace access to AI, but it should not be mistaken for universal adoption. Deloitte’s 2026 survey of 3,235 business and IT leaders across 24 countries and six industries found that around 60% of workers had access to sanctioned AI tools, up from fewer than 40% one year earlier. Fieldwork took place in August and September 2025. The measure concerns access to approved tools, not how often workers use them or whether companies have deployed autonomous agents in production. Access is not the same as agent deployment
An employee with access to a sanctioned assistant may use it to draft or summarize material. An agentic system is a distinct step: it can be designed to pursue tasks through multiple actions, potentially with less direct human prompting. The Deloitte access figure does not establish how many surveyed organizations have put such systems into production.
Are agentic AI jobs in demand?
Several indicators point to stronger demand for AI-related capabilities, although they do not amount to a single measure of agentic AI vacancies. In the UK AI Labour Market Survey 2025 executive summary, published on 28 January 2026, 57% of respondents said they planned to adopt Agentic AI within the next three years. That is a statement of intent by survey respondents—not a count of completed deployments, job openings, or hires. The same summary says the availability of suitably trained AI talent is not keeping pace with demand. UK government executive summary

The UK summary also reports that 38% of businesses surveyed hired talent from outside the UK. This is a UK survey finding, not a global hiring rate, and it does not identify the share of those hires specifically working on agentic AI.
Hiring and job-posting indicators are growing in selected categories
LinkedIn’s September 2025 update reported year-over-year growth of more than 70% in job postings requiring AI-literacy skills and more than 25% in hiring of AI engineering talent. These platform measures cover selected skills and hiring activity; they do not show net new jobs across the whole labor market or isolate agentic AI roles. LinkedIn Economic Graph update

What skills do employers need for AI roles?
The indicators above support demand for AI literacy and engineering talent, but they do not provide a definitive list of qualifications for agentic AI jobs. The distinction matters: general familiarity with AI tools, engineering AI systems, and designing or overseeing agentic workflows are not interchangeable capabilities. A candidate should check the responsibilities and required skills in each vacancy rather than assume that one credential or job title applies across the field.
For organizations moving from tool access toward agentic applications, staffing plans should also account for governance and oversight. Deloitte’s reporting frames governance as accompanying agentic AI growth. Hiring only for implementation can leave unanswered who approves actions, monitors outcomes, and remains accountable when a system makes an error.

Does AI adoption create jobs or replace them?
Rising demand for AI skills does not, by itself, demonstrate that total employment is increasing. A March 2026 Federal Reserve note discusses prior work finding little or no significant effect of generative AI exposure on total jobs or job postings, while a cited study found statistically significant wage gains in AI-exposed occupations. Those findings concern the studies discussed in the note; they should not be generalized to every AI role, industry, or worker. Federal Reserve analysis
The clearest conclusion is narrower: businesses are increasing access to AI tools, survey respondents report plans to adopt agentic AI, and selected measures show growth in AI-related skills demand. These are meaningful signs of change, but they do not establish universal agent adoption, a universal shortage across all AI occupations, or a net increase in jobs overall.
