Affinity Studio is now targeted for release on iPad in November 2026, but no launch day has been published. The timing comes from an Affinity mailing reported by AppleInsider on October 14, while Affinity’s public FAQ still says that iPadOS is “coming soon” and that there is no release date. Treat November as a reported target window, not a confirmed App Store date.
What is changing for iPad users
The forthcoming iPad app is a unified Affinity Studio rather than three separate downloads. It brings together the functions previously associated with Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher in three workspaces:

- Pixel Studio: photo editing and other raster-based work.
- Vector Studio: illustration, logos and vector design.
- Layout Studio: page composition and document layout.
Affinity’s download information describes the core application as free, including its listed tools, customization options and export features. Canva premium is optional and can add Canva AI capabilities, including generative features inside Affinity; the basic Affinity application does not require a Canva premium subscription.

AppleInsider reported on October 14, 2026 that an Affinity mailing had “pinned November down as the release date.” That report identifies a month, not a day, and does not establish that a final App Store listing, preorder or staged rollout is available.

Affinity’s own public FAQ has not yet been updated to match that announcement. It currently says: “We don’t have a release date for the new Affinity on iPad yet, so recommend continuing to run V2 independently while you enjoy the new Affinity on desktop.” The same public information labels the platform status “iPadOS coming soon!” The two statements create a clear distinction: November is the newest reported target, while the official public FAQ still lacks a day-specific commitment.
What existing Affinity V2 owners should do
Keep V2 if your current files are working
Existing Affinity V2 iPad applications remain usable for people who already own them. Serif says those V2 apps will not receive future updates, so they are a continuation option rather than the long-term iPad product direction.

Understand the file-direction limitation
The new desktop Affinity can open files created in V2. The older V2 applications cannot open newer Affinity files using the .af format. If a project must move between a desktop installation and an iPad, avoid creating the only copy in a newer format until the new iPad app is available and its compatibility is documented.
- Keep an archival copy of important V2 documents.
- Use the existing V2 workflow for projects that must remain editable on today’s iPad apps.
- When the unified app launches, test copies of representative files before moving active production work.
- Check the app’s release notes for confirmed import, export and version-compatibility details.
Will it replace Designer, Photo and Publisher on iPad?
Its stated design is to consolidate those three creative areas into one application, so it is intended to replace the need to install separate Affinity V2 iPad apps for new work. That does not mean every legacy feature or workflow has been confirmed as identical. Affinity has not yet published complete iPad feature-parity notes, and the final launch documentation will determine which tools, panels and file behaviors are present on day one.

Apple Pencil and iPad hardware
Affinity Designer 2’s official iPad listing documents Apple Pencil sensitivity to pressure, tilt and angle, making Apple Pencil a relevant input for drawing and design work. However, that listing describes the existing V2 application, not a final hardware specification for the unified Affinity Studio app. The new app’s supported Pencil generations, minimum iPad model, RAM, storage and required iPadOS version have not been published.
Until Affinity posts those requirements, do not assume that an iPad that runs a V2 app will meet the new app’s needs. Before buying or upgrading hardware, check the unified app’s eventual App Store listing and release notes for:

Should you wait or continue with another workflow?
The practical choice depends on your deadline and file requirements:
- Wait for Affinity Studio if you want one application for raster, vector and layout work and can postpone an iPad migration until the November target is clarified.
- Continue with V2 if you already own the iPad apps and need a working, familiar environment today. Keep in mind that V2 will not receive future updates and cannot open newer
.affiles. - Use another iPad creative app temporarily if you need a specific tool now and cannot risk an unconfirmed launch schedule. Compare its file export options, Apple Pencil behavior, touch controls, keyboard support and screen-size requirements before committing a project.
The most important comparison is not simply the number of features. It is whether the app can open the files you need, on the hardware you already have, at the time your project is due.

What to watch for before downloading
A definitive announcement should answer the questions the November report does not: the exact release day, supported iPad models, required iPadOS version, Apple Pencil compatibility, storage and memory guidance, file-version behavior and the complete list of included tools. Until those details appear in Affinity’s official release information or App Store listing, November 2026 should be read as a target window rather than a guaranteed day.
