AEG’s Australian product page labels it a “Discontinued Product” as of early October 2026, so the practical questions are whether a unit fits your cutout and electrical supply, whether your cookware works on it, and what support is still available. This review covers the documented specifications, controls and installation requirements. It is not a hands-on cooking test.
Is the HK654200XB still sold new?
The discontinued label means AEG no longer lists the model as a current product in Australia. It does not prove that no retailer holds stock, either new or as leftover inventory. CHOICE’s model page lists a price of A$2,249, but the page’s date is unclear, so treat that figure as historical rather than as a current offer. If you are buying a unit, confirm the exact model number on the rating plate before comparing it with the AEG specifications below.

Specifications
AEG lists the HK654200XB at 576 mm wide and 516 mm deep, with a cutout of 560 × 490 mm. Its connected load is 7.4 kW and the connection type is hardwired. CHOICE’s model page reports the same four-zone layout and a 7.4 kW maximum capacity, but rounds the dimensions to 58 × 52 cm and 56 × 49 cm. Where the two differ, use AEG’s millimetre figures and the appliance’s own rating plate.
Zone layout and power ratings
The four zones are not identical. Each has its own nominal and boost power, and each has a different minimum cookware diameter listed in the AEG/Electrolux manual.

| Zone | Nominal power | Boost power | Minimum pan diameter (manual) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Left front, 210 mm zone | 2300 W | 3700 W | 180 mm |
| Left rear, 180 mm zone | 1800 W | 2800 W | 145 mm |
| Right rear, 180 mm zone | 1800 W | 2800 W | 145 mm |
| Right front, 145 mm zone | 1400 W | 2500 W | 125 mm |
The manual limits boost to 10 minutes on the three larger zones and to 4 minutes on the right-front zone. It also notes that actual zone power can vary slightly with cookware material and dimensions. Plan large pans on the front-left zone, which has the highest boost rating and the largest minimum diameter.
Controls and features
The hob uses DirekTouch slider controls. AEG lists keep warm, automatic switch-off, a power booster, pot sensors, a function lock, a sound-off option, a minute minder, an Öko timer and a CountUp timer. Residual-heat indication is also part of the feature set.

AutoMax and boost
AEG describes AutoMax as automatic heat-up: it raises a selected zone to boiling and then reduces it to the power level you chose. AEG Australia’s page states, “Our AutoMax cooking function provides fantastic automatic zone control.” That is a manufacturer claim. No independent test in the available sources measures how quickly AutoMax or boost brings water to the boil.

Stop + Go
According to the manual, Stop + Go sets active zones to their lowest heat setting without stopping the timer. When you deactivate the function, each zone returns to its previous heat setting. It is useful for pausing a sauce or a pot of stock without losing the cooking program.

- VERSATILE COOKING FOR EVERY MEAL: Fry, stir-fry, simmer, or slow-cook — this infrared double burner handles it all. Use it for Teppanyaki and BBQ with a compatible plate and rack (not included). From quick weeknight dinners to holiday feast prep, two independent burners let you cook multiple dishes at once.
- SMART 1100W + 700W POWER ALLOCATION: Unlike conventional double burners that split power evenly into two 900W zones, the AMZCHEF cooktop pairs a 1100W main burner with a 700W secondary burner — giving you a high-power zone for searing and boiling alongside a lower-power zone for simmering and warming. This asymmetric design lets you allocate cooking tasks more efficiently and cook two dishes at different intensities simultaneously.
- COMPACT & PORTABLE FOR ANY SPACE: Measuring just 19.7"×11.4" with two 6.8"×6.8" ceramic glass cooking zones, this slim countertop cooktop fits tight countertops, studio apartments, offices, campsites, RVs, and vacation homes. Stainless steel body stands up to frequent heavy use, while the lightweight design makes it easy to move and store. A reliable backup burner for busy kitchens and gatherings.
- OPERATION INDICATOR LIGHT FOR CLEAR STATUS: The electric cooktop has an on/off indicator light that shows when it is in use. Each burner has its own light and overheat protection. The light stays on while the burner heats up and turns off when it reaches the right temperature. The cooktop provides even heat across the ceramic glass surface. You can adjust the temperature with a 6 levels knob for different dishes. Be careful not to touch the burner body while it is in use.
- SAFE, EFFICIENT & FLAMELESS: Thermal fuse provides automatic overheat protection. Flameless operation means no carbon monoxide, no open flame, and no stovetop required. Saves 30% electricity compared with traditional induction cookers. Tip: cover cookware with a lid when boiling water for faster results. It is easy to transport and can be used in kitchens, apartments, campers, and other locations. Additionally, it serves as a useful supplement and makes for a great gift.
Timers and safety
The minute minder, Öko timer and CountUp timer each run independently of the zone controls. The function lock and automatic switch-off are the main safeguards against accidental activation or a forgotten zone. Pot sensors detect whether cookware is present on a zone.

- Read the manual’s built-in installation diagrams, which include additional clearance requirements around the hob.
- Confirm that your cookware is suitable (see the next section).
- Confirm the exact model and rating plate, and check whether the unit you are considering is new, used or leftover stock.
Cookware compatibility
The manual lists the following as suitable: cast iron, steel, enamelled steel, stainless steel, and multilayer cookware that is appropriately marked for induction. It lists aluminium, copper, brass, glass, ceramic and porcelain as unsuitable on their own.
Recommended Free Tools
- Magnet test: hold a magnet to the base of the pan. If it sticks firmly, the pan is likely to work on induction.
- Base shape: the manual says a flat, thick base is preferable.
- Limit of the test: the magnet check is a screening step. It does not guarantee that every compatible pan will heat evenly or perform the same way.
If existing pans fail the test, induction-compatible cookware is an optional replacement, not a requirement of the hob.
