Acumatica announced general availability of its 2026 R2 cloud ERP release on October 1, 2026. The update adds AI Assistant and AI Automation capabilities, a Native Data Warehouse and connections to ERP data through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), while making the Modern UI the default. It also brings workflow changes across construction, manufacturing, distribution and e-commerce. These are Acumatica’s descriptions of the release; they do not by themselves establish independent performance or security results.
What’s new in Acumatica 2026 R2?
The release’s main changes are in AI-assisted work, reporting infrastructure, data access and interface modernization. It also includes industry-specific workflow updates. Which changes matter to a particular organization will depend on its configuration, edition and processes; Acumatica’s release materials do not establish detailed licensing entitlements.

AI Assistant and AI Automation
Acumatica says the new capabilities can answer business questions, identify anomalies, automate repetitive tasks and trigger workflows from prompts. It also describes conversational dashboard management and configurable AI experiences.
In examples published by Acumatica, the AI Assistant can analyze prior periods or specific dates and turn answers into reusable dashboard widgets. Users can create agents using plain-language instructions. Agents can begin from Business Events, Import/Export Scenarios or existing workflows, and can hand work to other agents for multi-step processes. Examples include adjusting prices toward target margins and assessing credit risk. These are vendor-provided examples, not independently verified outcomes.

Reporting and data infrastructure
Acumatica describes a Native Data Warehouse that uses a dedicated, performance-optimized copy of ERP data for reporting and analytics rather than querying the live transactional database. The stated aim is to reduce competition between reporting and transaction processing. The company presents the warehouse as a foundation that it plans to enhance in future updates.
The release also describes Generic Inquiry optimization that stores large datasets for dashboards and pivot views, alongside Grouped Table views, stronger reporting security, improved scheduling and new Generic Inquiries. Acumatica says stored results can be refreshed on demand or on a schedule and can support dashboards, pivot views, OData and MCP. Its community announcement also describes DAC-level security for inquiries.
How does Acumatica 2026 R2 connect ChatGPT or Claude to ERP data?
MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is the connection approach Acumatica describes for compatible external AI tools. The company says tools such as Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini can access published Generic Inquiries through MCP servers, without exporting or duplicating the data in a separate AI workspace.

Its community post also describes expanded masking and token-use tracking. These are vendor claims about the system’s design; the announcement material does not constitute an independent security audit. Organizations considering an MCP connection should assess which inquiries are published, who can access them, what fields are masked and how queries are monitored in their own configuration.

For a release-readiness or purchasing decision, verify feature entitlements and configuration requirements with Acumatica or the organization’s implementation partner rather than assuming an announced capability is available in every deployment.

Acumatica says all customers will automatically transition to the Modern UI in 2026 R2, and its community announcement says the Modern UI becomes the default. Customers with remaining Classic forms or customizations should review the transition against their own setup. Acumatica’s community post advises migrating those items before Classic-only functionality is retired in 2027 R1; check current product documentation and configuration before treating that as an individual migration deadline.
How to assess the update for your organization
The release announcements describe capabilities, but do not settle whether they fit a particular company’s workflows or controls. Use these checks when reviewing the update:
- AI scope: Identify which tasks the Assistant or agents would handle, who can create or approve workflows, and how outputs are reviewed.
- Data governance: For MCP, review published inquiries, permissions, masking, query auditability and token-use monitoring in the actual environment.
- Analytics needs: Determine which reports use stored inquiry results, how often those results refresh and whether that freshness suits operational decisions.
- Industry fit: Map the announced workflow examples to the features and configuration your organization uses; confirm edition entitlements separately.
- UI readiness: Inventory Classic forms and customizations and plan validation of their Modern UI equivalents.
- Deployment planning: Confirm timing, configuration requirements and any licensing implications with Acumatica or your implementation partner.
How to interpret Acumatica’s payroll speed claim
Acumatica’s 2026 community announcement says payroll processing runs “up to 63% faster.” The announcement text does not provide a comparison baseline or test methodology, so the figure should be treated as a vendor claim rather than an independently established benchmark or a result every customer should expect.
