The exact phone model, regional variant, carrier, and plan determine which options are available.
Check compatibility before you start
Samsung cautions that eSIM service varies by country and carrier. Confirm with your carrier that your exact Galaxy model and regional variant can use eSIM on your plan, and ask which activation method it supports. Samsung’s UK carrier information describes availability in particular regions; its list is not a worldwide or permanent guarantee. Samsung UK’s supported network carriers information can help you check, but the carrier should confirm current eligibility for your account.

- Have the carrier’s instructions and any QR code or activation code ready.
- If you plan to transfer a profile from another phone, confirm that both devices and the carrier support the transfer. For Samsung’s described Instant Transfer, the new phone must be unlocked.
Choose the activation method your carrier supports
On the Galaxy phone, go to Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM. Menu wording and available options can differ by software version and regional model. Samsung documents automatic setup, QR-code setup, activation-code entry, and supported device transfers; not every route is offered on every phone or by every carrier. Automatic setup
If your carrier has made an eSIM plan available to the phone, tap Add eSIM and follow the on-screen prompts. The plan may download and activate automatically. If no plan appears or the option is unavailable, ask the carrier whether it supports automatic provisioning for your model and account.

Scan a carrier QR code
- Request the eSIM QR code from your carrier.
- On the Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM.
- Choose Scan QR code and scan the code supplied by the carrier.
- Follow the prompts to download and activate the profile.
Enter an activation code
If your carrier gives you an activation code instead of a QR code, open the activation-code entry option in the Add eSIM flow and enter the code exactly as supplied. Use the carrier’s instructions if its code or setup screen differs; do not substitute a code from another account or device.
Transfer an existing eSIM
If the carrier and both phones support eSIM transfer, use the transfer option offered during setup to move the profile from your previous Galaxy or Android phone. Samsung’s Instant Transfer guidance requires the new device to be unlocked. If the transfer choice does not appear, check with the carrier and Samsung for support for the two specific models rather than assuming transfer is available on all Galaxy phones.

What to do if activation does not work
There is no single troubleshooting sequence established for every Samsung phone and carrier. Start with the points that determine whether the setup can succeed, then follow the carrier’s current recovery instructions for a failed download or rejected code.
- Verify that the exact regional model supports eSIM and that the carrier supports it for your plan.
- Confirm you are using the current QR code or activation details issued for your line.
- Check that the selected method—automatic setup, QR code, activation code, or transfer—is supported for your device and account.
- For a transfer, confirm that the source and destination phones qualify; Samsung’s described Instant Transfer requires an unlocked new device.
Carrier-specific rules are not universal. For example, Verizon’s Samsung eSIM activation instructions say that some non-Verizon prepaid bring-your-own-device phones do not support its eSIM activation and that its setup requires Verizon coverage. Verizon advises travelers using that process to activate before leaving coverage; check your own carrier’s requirements if you are traveling.

Removing an eSIM profile does not cancel the plan
Removing an activated plan from your Galaxy deletes its profile from that phone; it does not end the carrier contract. To cancel service, contact the carrier directly. Samsung explains this distinction in its Galaxy eSIM guide.
