Short answer: Abstract documents URL and raw-HTML capture, while Screenshotlayer’s reviewed quickstart documents URL capture and its published plans specify monthly snapshot quotas and dedicated workers. But neither source establishes that it can capture a page as seen from an Indian network location. Abstract explicitly says location-specific screenshots are not currently supported. If “in India” means using or paying for an API from India, that is a separate question from India-geolocated capture; the reviewed sources do not confirm country availability, INR billing, taxes, or India-specific performance.
This is a documentation-based comparison, not a speed, uptime, or rendering test. Check the providers’ current terms and plans before committing. For a third option, ScreenshotNeo offers clean captures, bills only clean shots, and has a free tier.

First clarify what “in India” means
There are three different requirements that are easy to conflate:
Recommended Free Tools
- Using the API from India: whether a provider accepts requests from an India-based developer or server.
- Paying from India: whether the provider accepts the customer’s payment method and what currency, taxes, and exchange costs apply.
- Capturing from India: whether the browser or capture worker visits the target site using an Indian network location, so geo-dependent content matches what visitors in India see.
The reviewed official materials establish none of these comprehensively for India. Abstract specifically says location-specific screenshots are not currently supported. Screenshotlayer’s documented viewport controls do not establish that its requests can be routed through India. If the third requirement matters, ask the provider directly and test a page that changes by visitor location before building around it.
#1 Best Overall
Abstract vs Screenshotlayer at a glance
| Question | Abstract | Screenshotlayer |
|---|---|---|
| Documented input | URL or raw HTML, according to its product page. | The reviewed quickstart requires an access key and full target URL; equivalent raw-HTML input is not established by the cited specification. |
| Capture controls | Describes viewport and dimensions, custom CSS, and capture delays. | The API specification names full-page capture, width, viewport, and output format. The product page also advertises custom CSS, delay, cache TTL, refresh, custom headers, and S3 or FTP export. |
| India-based capture | Not supported for location-specific screenshots, according to Abstract’s FAQ. | Not established by the reviewed specification. Viewport/device emulation is not proof of an India-based network location. |
| Free allowance | 100 requests and 1 request/second on the product page as accessed in 2026. | 100 monthly snapshots for non-commercial use on the pricing page as accessed in 2026. |
| Published paid plans | Standard is shown as USD 99/month for 60,000 requests, but the page’s annual and monthly billing displays differ. Confirm the billing period and quota at checkout. | Basic: USD 19.99/month for 10,000 snapshots; Professional: USD 59.99/month for 30,000; Enterprise: USD 149.99/month for 75,000, as listed on the pricing page accessed in 2026. |
| Concurrency details | Product page lists a free-tier rate limit of 1 request/second. Confirm limits for the plan you would use. | The pricing page lists 10, 20, and 40 dedicated workers on Basic, Professional, and Enterprise, respectively; Screenshotlayer describes one screenshot at a time per worker. |
| Output and export | Product page names PNG, JPEG, and GIF and describes flexible output/storage language; confirm exact formats and destinations for your use case. | Official sources name PNG, JPEG, and GIF; WebP is listed on paid tiers. S3/FTP export is listed on Professional and Enterprise. |
Plan details are provider-published claims, not independent performance findings. Prices and allowances can change. USD list prices do not establish an India customer’s final payable amount.
What Abstract documents
Abstract’s Website Screenshot API page documents an endpoint at https://screenshot.abstractapi.com/v1/, called with an API key and a URL. It also describes raw-HTML input, image output including PNG, JPEG, and GIF, viewport and dimension settings, custom CSS, and capture delays. The page says data sent to and processed by the API is secured with 256-bit SSL encryption (HTTPS).
Abstract’s global-architecture language should not be read as a regional-capture promise: its FAQ says screenshots from different locations are not currently supported. That makes Abstract a poor fit if your requirement is specifically to reproduce what a visitor sees because they are connecting from India.

The same page lists a free tier of 100 requests and a rate of 1 request per second. It shows Standard at USD 99/month and 60,000 requests, but its rendered plan details differ between annual and monthly billing views, including how requests are expressed. Verify the live plan and checkout terms rather than assuming that price and quota apply to your desired billing period. Abstract lists custom Enterprise pricing and a 99.99% uptime SLA for Enterprise; the SLA is the vendor’s stated commitment, not an independently measured uptime result.
What Screenshotlayer documents
Screenshotlayer’s API specification gives http://api.screenshotlayer.com/api/capture as the base endpoint and requires access_key and the full target URL. It names fullpage, width, viewport, and format options; the documented default output is PNG. Its documentation says paid customers may connect over HTTPS.
The official product page also advertises viewport/device control, full-height capture, custom CSS, capture delay, cache TTL, refresh, custom headers, and S3 or FTP export. These are vendor-described capabilities, not tested results. The reviewed specification does not establish raw-HTML input or an India capture region.
Rank #3
The pricing page, accessed in 2026, lists 100 free monthly snapshots for non-commercial use. Paid monthly tiers are Basic at USD 19.99 for 10,000 snapshots, Professional at USD 59.99 for 30,000, and Enterprise at USD 149.99 for 75,000. The same page lists 10, 20, and 40 dedicated workers for those tiers and describes each worker as handling one screenshot at a time. Annual billing is advertised as discounted by up to 15%; check the current page for the applicable price and terms.
Screenshotlayer’s FAQ says its output includes PNG, JPEG, and GIF, describes quota notifications and overage charges, and lists Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Diners Club as payment methods. It gives an approximate 99.9% uptime figure while also saying public uptime statistics are not offered. Treat that as Screenshotlayer’s approximate vendor claim, not a verified SLA or comparative reliability result.
Which API should you choose?
Choose Abstract if raw HTML input matters
Among the two, Abstract is the documented option when you need to submit HTML rather than a public page URL. Its product page also describes CSS injection, dimensions, and capture delay. Confirm the exact output format, rate limit, and billing-period interpretation against your use case before integrating.
Rank #4
Consider Screenshotlayer if its published worker model and exports fit
Screenshotlayer publishes monthly snapshot counts and dedicated-worker counts, making those figures relevant if your workload depends on concurrent captures. Its pricing page also places S3/FTP export on Professional and Enterprise and lists WebP support on paid tiers. Confirm what counts as a snapshot, overage charges, commercial-use terms, and the current tier details.
Choose neither without a test if India-geolocated output is essential
Abstract says location-specific capture is not supported. The reviewed Screenshotlayer material does not establish an India-region capture option. Ask Screenshotlayer whether it can capture from an Indian IP and test with a target page whose language, pricing, or content varies by location. Do not treat a device preset or viewport size as geographic routing.
How to compare them against your workload
- Define the expected output. List whether you need URL or HTML input, full-page or viewport captures, particular image formats, PDF or export destinations, and CSS or delay controls.
- Estimate volume and bursts. Compare your normal monthly captures with the published quota, then determine the request rate or simultaneous jobs you need. Abstract’s page lists 1 request/second for its free tier; Screenshotlayer publishes worker counts for paid tiers.
- Confirm commercial and security requirements. Screenshotlayer’s free tier is described as non-commercial. Abstract describes HTTPS security; Screenshotlayer says paid customers may connect over HTTPS. Ask both providers for any security, retention, or contractual details your organization requires.
- Calculate total India cost. Use the current checkout rather than assuming the displayed USD amount is the final charge. Confirm card eligibility, currency conversion, taxes, annual-versus-monthly billing, and overage rates.
- Run representative captures. Use pages with the same authentication, dynamic content, cookie state, page length, and regional behavior as production. This comparison contains no independent rendering, latency, availability, or accuracy test.
ScreenshotNeo as an alternative to try first
If you want a third website screenshot API to evaluate, try ScreenshotNeo first: it removes consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and offers an MCP server for AI agents. One GET request can return an image or PDF:
ScreenshotNeo API documentation
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
It also supports Python and Node.js clients; see the documentation for all options. The API’s response includes page-verdict and billing headers, which help distinguish clean captures from bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, and cache hits.

Free includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Every feature is on every plan. If these capture and billing behaviors suit your requirements, sign up free for 1,000 screenshots a month with no card.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Screenshotlayer viewport preset make a screenshot look like it came from India?
No. A viewport or device preset changes the emulated screen dimensions or device characteristics; it does not establish the network location used to fetch the page.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Are the published USD prices the final amount an India-based customer will pay?
Not necessarily. The reviewed official materials do not establish INR billing, India tax treatment, exchange rates, or payment eligibility. Check the provider’s checkout and terms.
