Some YouTube users report that they cannot sign in through a web browser even though their Google Accounts work elsewhere—and the same accounts reportedly still work in YouTube’s mobile and TV apps. The reports do not establish how widespread the problem is, what causes it, or whether Google has fixed it.
What users are reporting
In an October 2, 2026 report, Android Authority described users who could not sign in to YouTube on the web. Reported symptoms include the message “There was an issue while signing you in to YouTube,” an error page, or being redirected to an “oops” page. One YouTube Community post cited in the report used the wording “Our tubes must be clogged.” These are user or interface reports, not an official diagnosis.

The reports reportedly span multiple browsers and computers, while affected accounts continue to work in YouTube’s mobile and TV apps. Some users also say they can access other Google services. That pattern suggests the trouble may be specific to YouTube browser access for certain accounts, but it does not confirm a technical cause.
Android Authority said reports had been appearing for roughly two weeks as of October 2 and described the affected group as small, without giving a count or percentage. YouTube Community product experts had escalated the issue, but Google had not publicly confirmed a broader problem, explained its cause, or provided a fix timeline in that report. Its status may change.

What to try if you cannot sign in
Use YouTube’s official sign-in troubleshooter
Start with YouTube’s sign-in troubleshooter. It asks whether you know your sign-in credentials, what happens when you try to log in—including an error, page refresh, or redirect loop—and whether you use two-step verification. It then directs you to relevant help. The tool is useful for narrowing down standard sign-in problems, but the available reporting does not show that it resolves this particular issue.
Check that you are using the right Google Account email
YouTube sign-in generally uses the Google Account associated with the channel. If you have an older YouTube username, try the associated Google Account email address with the same password, following YouTube’s account sign-in guidance. Some channels created before May 2009 may not be part of a Google Account, so the usual guidance may not fit every legacy channel. This is general account advice, not an established explanation for the current reports.

Avoid treating routine browser changes as proven fixes
The reports describe failures across browsers and computers, and one user reportedly tried browser changes, cookie deletion, and a password change without success. Those steps are not established fixes for this apparent access problem. If you choose to troubleshoot your browser, do so as a general check—not as a confirmed workaround—and avoid changing account credentials unnecessarily.

Being able to use Gmail or the YouTube app does not by itself explain why browser sign-in fails. It only describes where access appears to work and where it does not. Likewise, trying another browser may help identify whether a problem is limited to one setup, but success or failure would not prove the underlying cause. The reports do not establish a reliable workaround or a diagnostic test for this issue.
