On some wireless mice, lowering the report rate or turning off the lighting extends battery life. Logitech documents both levers, but for specific models only. For the G304 and G305, its endurance mode fixes the report rate at 125 Hz (8 ms) to maximize battery life. The “doubled” result in the headline is a different matter. Logitech’s pages do not establish that any single change doubles battery life for any mouse, so treat that figure as one owner’s result until you can match it to a model, settings and usage pattern.
What report rate controls
Report rate is how often a mouse sends its position to the computer. On the G304 and G305, Logitech’s guide lists rates from 125 reports per second (8 ms) up to 1,000 reports per second (1 ms) in performance mode, with 1,000 reports per second as the rate described for that mode. Fewer updates means less work for the radio and the battery, and a slightly less immediate response. That trade-off is the whole reason the setting exists.

Which settings can extend battery life
The controls differ by model, so check your own mouse’s support page before changing anything. Logitech’s pages for these two mice describe the following:

Logitech’s support pages for these models do not show publication dates, so confirm the current wording on the page for your exact mouse.

How to change the setting on a G304 or G305
- Open Logitech Gaming Software.
- Select your mouse and the profile you use with it.
- For the longest battery life, choose endurance mode, the option labelled LO in Logitech’s guide. The report rate is then fixed at 125 Hz.
- To keep performance mode and still lower the rate, adjust the report rate in the pointer settings.
Logitech describes separate instructions for on-board memory profiles and automatic game detection. If you rely on either, follow the guide for that mode rather than these steps. These menus apply to the G304 and G305 only. Do not assume they match another mouse’s software.
Choosing a rate for desktop use or gaming
- Desktop, office and browsing: Logitech’s G304/G305 guidance recommends endurance mode for non-gaming applications, where the lower fixed rate is unlikely to matter.
- Fast-paced gaming: Logitech recommends performance mode for gaming, where a higher report rate gives quicker response.
- Lighting on the G403 and G703: Turning the LEDs off is the change Logitech identifies for battery performance. It is a separate lever from report rate, so you can test one at a time.
Testing whether a change helps your mouse
Battery life varies with use, so a before-and-after comparison only means something if the conditions are recorded. Note the following for each test:

- Mouse model and the software version you used to change settings
- The original setting and the changed setting, such as report rate, lighting or mode
- Typical use: gaming hours, desktop hours, or both
- The test period, run from a full charge to empty on each setting under similar sessions
Without these details, a claimed improvement cannot be separated from changes in how much you used the mouse.
Battery guidance that does not transfer
Logitech’s AA and AAA battery advice applies only to the replaceable-battery models it names. It is not a general recommendation for wireless mice. Before applying the battery figures above to a different mouse, check that model’s own page.
