A community developer says an experimental driver can run an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 with acceleration on macOS 15 Sequoia. But the only end-to-end test the developer reports is on a PC, not a Hackintosh or an Intel Mac Pro. For now, this is a promising project announcement—not evidence that NVIDIA cards are ready for general use on modern Macs.
What the new macOS NVIDIA driver claims to do
Announced on October 7, 2026, the project is described by its author, posting as u/null-moth, as an experimental driver stack for NVIDIA GPUs. The author says an RTX 5060 runs with acceleration on macOS 15 Sequoia. That result is the author’s report; the announcement does not provide independent verification or broad compatibility data. The author describes the stack as a kernel driver based on NVIDIA’s open-source GPU kernel modules, a Metal driver built on Mesa NVK, and a shader translator that converts Metal shaders for the GPU. The announcement also describes a setup app and an OpenCore installation path. Those are the project author’s descriptions, not independently verified technical findings.

The sole end-to-end configuration identified in the announcement is a PC with a Core Ultra 5 225F processor, a B860 motherboard, and an RTX 5060. The project author cautions: “Real talk: this is brand new. It’s tested end to end on one PC (Core Ultra 5 225F, B860 board, RTX 5060). It might not work on yours yet.”

- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
That statement does not establish support for every RTX card, for other PC hardware, or for an Intel Mac. The announcement names no independently reproduced test, supported-card list, performance benchmark, compatibility rate, or reliability statistic.
Does this mean an Intel Mac Pro can use an NVIDIA card?
No Mac Pro model or configuration is confirmed in the announcement. It mentions Intel Macs and Hackintoshes generally, but its reported test machine is a PC. That leaves a significant gap: the announcement does not show that the driver works with any Intel Mac Pro, its firmware, or a particular NVIDIA card installed in one.

Apple’s macOS Tahoe 26 compatibility list includes Mac Pro (2019) and Mac Pro (2023), but operating-system compatibility is not NVIDIA-driver compatibility. Apple’s list does not establish that this experimental project works on either model. See Apple’s macOS Tahoe 26 compatible-computer list.

Does the project support every RTX GPU, or only the RTX 5060?
The only GPU identified in the new project’s reported end-to-end test is the RTX 5060. The announcement does not settle whether other RTX 50-series cards or earlier generations work. Treat any broader claim as unconfirmed unless the project publishes model-specific evidence.

- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
- 3.6-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
A separate project, NVDAAL-Driver, documents experimental compute-only work for RTX 40-series GPUs on Hackintosh. Its documentation says the project is in early development and requires GSP firmware. Compute-only work is not proof of an accelerated display driver for general Mac use, and it should not be confused with the new RTX 5060 announcement. See the NVDAAL-Driver project documentation.
What about NVIDIA’s older Mac drivers?
NVIDIA’s archived macOS driver record for release 378.05.05.25f11 is for macOS Sierra 10.12.6. It lists Mac Pro 3,1, 4,1, and 5,1 identifiers among its minimum system requirements. That is historical context only: it does not demonstrate support for modern macOS versions or modern NVIDIA GPUs. View NVIDIA’s archived driver record.

What to check before relying on the announcement
- Exact GPU: Look for evidence naming the specific card, not just an RTX generation or family.
- Exact computer: A result on one PC does not confirm operation on another PC, a Hackintosh, or a Mac Pro.
- macOS version: The reported result is for macOS 15 Sequoia; it does not establish support for other releases.
- What “works” means: Distinguish accelerated display output from compute-only support.
- Evidence quality: Separate an author’s report from independent reproductions. The announcement reports one test configuration and warns that other hardware may not work.
Until model-specific Mac testing is documented, owners should not buy or install an NVIDIA card on the assumption that this project will make it work. The announcement is a notable development, but Mac Pro compatibility remains an open question.
