Yes—Tilefinch is an experimental browser project for the PSP that runs on the device without a proxy. It is not a universal upgrade: its maintainer requires homebrew or custom firmware and 64 MB memory mode, and identifies the PSP-3000 as the only tested model. The PSP-2000 and PSP Go are expected to work but are not qualified; the PSP-1000 is unsupported. Tilefinch’s project documentation is the basis for those compatibility statements, not independent testing.
Which browser should you use on a PSP?
Choose based on your PSP model and whether you can run homebrew. Tilefinch is the current PSP-specific project documented here, but it remains experimental. The built-in Internet Browser requires no homebrew, though its legacy engine and security support can prevent modern pages from loading. Opera Mini through PSPKVM is a historical alternative whose current service availability is unverified.

| Option | What it does | Requirements and strengths | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sony Internet Browser | Built-in browser based on NetFront. | No homebrew required. Settings include JavaScript, Flash, memory conservation, proxy, cookies and cache. Sony’s guide says it can display web pages. | Legacy rendering and TLS/certificate support, plus memory constraints, can make current sites fail. Sony cautions that some images and animations may not display correctly. Sony browser guide; Sony browser settings; PSP Developer wiki. |
| Tilefinch | Experimental browser engine that runs on the PSP itself. | Project documentation says it needs homebrew/custom firmware and 64 MB memory mode, and does not require a proxy or companion PC. The maintainer lists PSP-3000 as tested. | PSP-2000 and PSP Go are expected but not qualified; PSP-1000 is unsupported. These are maintainer claims, not independent compatibility results. Tilefinch project documentation. |
| Opera Mini via PSPKVM | A Java ME phone browser running in a homebrew virtual machine, with pages rendered through a server. | Could offer a lighter route if Opera’s proxy service still accepts the old client. | Present-day operation is unverified and depends on the legacy client and proxy service. Check your PSP model and requirements
Tilefinch’s model guidance is specific: PSP-3000 is marked tested; PSP-2000 and PSP Go are expected to work but not qualified; PSP-1000 is unsupported. The PSP-E1000/Street has no Wi-Fi according to the project, so only its offline library would be usable. Confirm your model before preparing an installation, and treat the project’s compatibility list as provisional.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match- Homebrew/custom firmware: Tilefinch requires a PSP configured to run homebrew. If you do not already use homebrew, this is a prerequisite, not an optional browser setting.
- Memory mode: the project targets 64 MB memory mode.
- Storage: its maintainer recommends about 20 MB free for everyday browsing and updates. A compatible card or adapter is relevant only if your existing storage cannot provide that space; additional storage does not fix TLS or page-rendering limits.
Install Tilefinch
- Download the PSP ZIP from the Tilefinch project page and extract it.
- Copy the complete
TILEFINCHfolder toPSP/GAME/on the Memory Stick. The launcher should be atPSP/GAME/TILEFINCH/EBOOT.PBP. - Check that the card has about 20 MB free for everyday browsing and updates, as the project recommends.
- Launch Tilefinch from the PSP’s Game menu. If it does not appear, verify the folder path and that the PSP is configured to run homebrew; the documented install location is
PSP/GAME/.
Why the built-in browser can fail on current sites
A PSP can connect to a wireless network and still be unable to open a particular page. Sony’s PSP-3004 manual describes establishing wireless access and launching Internet Browser from the Network menu; network connectivity is separate from a browser’s ability to negotiate a site’s encryption or render its content. The PSP Developer wiki describes the built-in browser as a legacy NetFront implementation with constrained memory and outdated TLS/certificate support. Those limits explain why a working Wi-Fi connection does not guarantee that a modern website will load.
#1 Best Overall
- Sony PSP 3000 International Console, Fully Technician Tested.
Sony provides controls for JavaScript, Flash, proxy configuration, cookies and cache. Its guide lists a maximum cache setting of 2048 KB. The memory-conservation option can help larger pages display, but Sony warns that image quality may be reduced, and some images or animations may not display correctly. These settings adjust the existing browser; they do not replace its engine with a modern one.
To try the stock browser, connect the PSP to a wireless access point, then choose Network > Internet Browser. If the browser opens but a specific site fails, that points to a compatibility problem as well as a possible network issue; changing cache or JavaScript settings cannot bring its TLS implementation up to date. Sony’s browser guide and PSP-3004 user manual describe the browser and wireless setup.

What to expect from a PSP browsing setup
Tilefinch is the clearest documented option if your model and homebrew setup meet its requirements, but its experimental status and limited model qualifications matter. Keep the stock browser for lightweight pages it can still handle. Do not assume that adding a proxy, storage card or browser setting will make every current site compatible. For Opera Mini through PSPKVM, treat availability as uncertain: the community reference says it depends on Opera’s servers continuing to accept the old client, and current acceptance is not established.
