A magnetic car phone mount can make it easier to place and remove your phone around an Android Auto setup. It holds the phone; it does not enable Android Auto or repair connection dropouts. Those depend on whether your phone and car or stereo support Android Auto and whether you connect by USB or wirelessly.
What a magnetic mount changes—and what it doesn’t
A magnetic mount is a physical holder. It can give your phone a consistent place in the car and reduce the hassle of positioning it, but it is separate from Android Auto’s phone-to-car connection. Google describes wired USB and wireless setup as distinct processes in its Android Auto setup instructions.

That means a mount is not a fix for a phone that will not connect, an incompatible car stereo, or wireless dropouts. If your goal is wireless Android Auto, both the phone and the car or stereo must support it. Google’s getting-started guidance says the first wireless connection pairs the phone and car over Bluetooth and recommends Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services during setup.
Check magnetic compatibility before choosing a mount
“Magnetic” does not mean every Android phone will attach securely to every mount. Compatibility depends on the phone, its case, and the mount’s attachment system. Belkin lists Android phones for its cited Qi2 vent-and-dash mount when used with a MagSafe-compatible case or adapter; that condition applies to this model, not to all Android phones or mounts. Check the manufacturer’s requirements for the exact mount you are considering.

If your phone and case are not compatible as-is, you may need a compatible case or an adapter or ring. UGREEN’s product page includes Android-related ring-positioning guidance for its LP924 mount. That guidance is specific to that product; it does not establish that every generic ring works with every phone or preserves wireless charging.
Charging is optional
A magnetic holder can simply hold the phone, or it can include wireless charging. The Belkin model below is a Qi2 charging mount with wireless output of up to 15 W, according to Belkin’s undated product documentation accessed in 2026. That is a manufacturer specification, not a guarantee of charging speed in every setup. UGREEN describes its LP924 as a magnetic dashboard mount without charging.

Choose by location, phone fit, and charging needs
- Mounting location: Decide whether a vent or dashboard position works in your vehicle, then check the mount maker’s fit guidance. A listing for both options does not mean a model fits every vent or dashboard.
- Phone and case: Confirm that your exact phone-and-case combination is supported, or identify the specific compatible case or adapter the mount requires.
- Charging: Choose a non-charging holder if you only need a place for the phone. Consider a charging model if you want that feature, and check its charging requirements separately.
- Android Auto mode: Check phone and car or stereo compatibility for wired or wireless Android Auto independently of the mount. Google’s setup and compatibility guidance is the relevant reference for that connection.
Keep the Android Auto connection setup separate
For wired Android Auto, follow Google’s USB setup instructions and use a compatible phone, car or stereo, and cable. For wireless use, confirm both phone and car or stereo support wireless Android Auto; the mount itself does not add that capability. During the first wireless setup, Google recommends Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services, and describes pairing over Bluetooth.

A wireless Android Auto adapter is a separate accessory category for people seeking wireless projection from an otherwise compatible setup. It is not required for a magnetic phone mount, and the sources cited here do not establish the compatibility of any particular adapter.
