A Free Next.js 16 SaaS Dashboard Starter with shadcn/ui and Tailwind CSS 4

Kiranism’s next-shadcn-dashboard-starter is a downloadable, MIT-licensed dashboard template—not a hosted SaaS product. Its README describes a Next.js 16, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS v4 starter using shadcn/ui with Base UI primitives, with prebuilt admin workflows and Clerk integrations. The project says it is free for commercial use; that applies to the template, not necessarily to the third-party services you choose to run with it.

What the starter includes

The project is aimed at SaaS dashboards, internal tools, analytics dashboards and client admin panels. Its README lists dashboard charts, data tables, forms, authentication, organizations, billing, role-filtered navigation and themes. These are project-described features, not independently verified guarantees of security, performance or production readiness.

The listed stack includes Next.js 16, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS v4 and shadcn/ui on Base UI primitives. Supporting libraries named by the repository include Clerk for authentication and organization and billing workflows; Sentry for error tracking; Recharts and Evil Charts; Zod; TanStack React Query and TanStack Form; Zustand; and Nuqs. The exact dependency versions can change, so consult the README when choosing or updating the starter.

Dashboard and account workflows

The README describes tables with server-side prefetching and client caching, search, filters and pagination, including URL-synced search parameters. It also describes validated forms for create and update mutations, workspaces and team management through Clerk Organizations, and organization billing and plan gating through Clerk Billing.

Other listed interface features include a Kanban board, chat interface, notifications and profile settings, as well as a scripted AI chat demonstration. The repository presents these workflows as working end-to-end; that description does not establish that every feature is suitable for a particular production deployment without review and configuration.

How to get it running

The README prefers Bun and says npm also works. You will need to supply the environment variables for the integrations you intend to use, including authentication and error tracking credentials where applicable.

  1. Clone the repository: git clone https://github.com/Kiranism/next-shadcn-dashboard-starter.git

  2. Change into the project directory and install dependencies. Use Bun as preferred by the README, or npm if that fits your environment.

  3. Copy env.example.txt to .env.local, then fill in the required values for the services you plan to use.

  4. Start the local development server with the development command documented in the repository README.

Environment requirements depend on the integrations enabled in your setup. Before deploying, decide whether you need Clerk authentication, organizations and billing, and Sentry error tracking; configure their credentials and review the resulting application behavior. The repository includes a cleanup script for removing selected features if you do not want the full set of integrations.

Deployment and ongoing changes

The project documents deployment to Vercel and includes Dockerfiles for Node.js and Bun. Follow the README for the deployment path you choose and configure the required environment variables in that environment as well as locally. The repository also warns that pulling upstream changes after cloning or forking can produce merge conflicts, so plan how you will incorporate updates into a customized copy.

Is it free for commercial SaaS use?

The repository states that the template is MIT-licensed and free for personal and commercial projects. That is the project’s stated licensing position, not legal advice. The template license does not establish the current prices, usage limits or terms of Clerk, Sentry, hosting or other third-party services integrated into an application. Check each provider’s current terms for your intended use.

How it compares with the Next.js SaaS starter

The official Next.js saas-starter is an adjacent option with a different emphasis. Its README documents authentication, Stripe payments and subscription management, a logged-in dashboard, Postgres, Drizzle and shadcn/ui. Kiranism’s starter emphasizes a broader dashboard interface with prebuilt admin workflows, tables and forms.

Decision point Kiranism dashboard starter Next.js SaaS starter
Documented emphasis Dashboard UI and admin workflows, including tables, forms and charts. (Kiranism README) Account and billing foundation, including a logged-in dashboard and subscription management. (Next.js README)
Authentication and billing direction Clerk authentication, organizations and billing are described. (Kiranism README) Authentication and Stripe payments and subscription management are described. (Next.js README)
Database and ORM Not stated in the cited README description. Postgres and Drizzle are listed. (Next.js README)
Best fit to evaluate Consider it if you want a substantial dashboard UI and are comfortable reviewing or removing integrations you do not need. Consider it if you want the documented account, database and billing foundation rather than a broader prebuilt admin interface.

Neither description establishes a benchmark or a guaranteed amount of customization work. Compare the account and billing providers, database requirements, deployment needs and cleanup you expect before committing to either codebase.
