Bring in existing Markdown
The announcement says users can open a Markdown file from a GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket link. It also lists tabs, an outline, a command palette, find and replace, automatic snapshots or version history, and custom CSS for the preview.

Copy or export finished work
Markdown Preview is described as supporting formatted-content copying for use in Gmail, Google Docs, or Slack. Its listed export formats are PDF, standalone HTML, and Markdown. The announcement does not report how reliably formatting survives across specific apps or documents, so treat copy-and-paste fidelity as something to verify with your own content.
What “private” means here—and what it does not establish
Sanghani says the editor runs entirely in the browser, has no account requirement or document backend, and stores content in IndexedDB and localStorage. He also says it can be installed as a progressive web app and used offline. These are the author’s descriptions of the design, not findings from an independent inspection of network traffic, storage behavior, or security.
Browser storage is not the same as a security guarantee. The announcement does not establish protections against access by someone using the same browser profile, loss of data if browser storage is cleared, or exposure through other software or extensions. Avoid treating the privacy claim as proof that sensitive material is safe to enter. For important work, keep a separate Markdown export or another backup you control.
Who may find it useful
The combination is potentially convenient if you already write Markdown and need math, Mermaid diagrams, or slide output in the same workspace. It may also suit a quick browser-based edit when you want to preview content or copy formatted text into another app. Whether it replaces an installed editor depends on your workflow: the announcement does not provide a comparison with other editors, usability testing, or independent confirmation that the current live version still has every listed feature.
