To automate bug reports with Tally and Make, collect structured details in a Tally form, use Make’s Tally Watch New Responses trigger, map each response into a team destination, test the complete flow, and then activate the scenario. Use Slack when the goal is a notification; send submissions to an issue tracker such as Linear when they need to become trackable work. Automation moves information—it does not by itself assign, deduplicate, or resolve bugs.
Design a form that produces actionable bug reports
A message like “Something is broken” may alert a team, but often leaves out the details needed to reproduce the problem. Tally’s bug-report example calls out missing steps, screenshots, and urgency as common gaps in informal reports. A form can prompt for those details consistently.
Start with the information someone needs to understand and investigate the issue:
- What happened? Ask for a concise description of the problem.
- Where did it happen? Capture the affected product area, page, or environment.
- How can someone reproduce it? Give the reporter room to list steps.
- What supports the report? Invite a screenshot, recording, or other relevant file.
As useful additions, consider separate fields for expected versus actual behavior, platform or version, and severity or impact. These are practical suggestions, not a universal required field list. Keep prompts clear and avoid making every field mandatory if that would discourage useful reports. Tally also supports conditional logic and hidden fields; use them when they make the form more relevant, such as showing follow-up questions only for a particular product area. See Tally’s form-creation guide and its bug-report example.

Choose where each report should go
Choose the destination based on what the team needs to do next. A message in a channel is visible, but it is not necessarily a work item. An issue tracker is a better fit when reports should enter a queue that the team already uses to assign and follow work.
| Destination | Best fit | Documented workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Slack | Notify a team or person about a new submission. | Tally documents sending submissions to a selected channel or direct message, either with key details or a fuller response, and provides sync logs. Tally Slack integration |
| Linear | Create trackable issues from submissions. | Tally documents mapping form fields to an issue title and description, with response details included in the issue body. Tally Linear integration |
| Jira or another task destination | Route reports into an existing work queue. | Tally’s Make guide lists Jira among downstream task-workflow examples. Check the current connector and available action in your Make account before following a destination-specific setup. Tally Make integration |
Before settling on a destination, check whether it supports the fields you need, how it handles attached files, and who will own triage. Tally’s integration listings cover multiple categories, but the right destination depends on your team’s process; the documented integration mechanics do not establish which tool is best for a particular team. Build the Tally-to-Make scenario
- Create and publish the Tally form. Make the prompts specific enough that people can report the issue and provide relevant context.
- Add the Tally trigger in Make. Create a scenario, select Tally, choose
Watch New Responses, and connect the relevant account and form. This trigger starts the scenario when a new response arrives. Tally’s Make setup guide - Add an action for the destination. Choose the action that matches the result you want, such as creating a Google Sheets row or sending a notification or task to a supported destination. The exact choices depend on the connector and account.
- Map the fields deliberately. Use a short report summary for the destination’s title, and put the description, reproduction steps, location, and other relevant context into its body or corresponding fields. Check which fields the chosen action actually accepts.
- Run a live test before turning the scenario on. In Make, click
Run once, submit a test response through the form, and inspect both the data Make received and the resulting destination record. Correct missing or misplaced fields before activation. - Activate the scenario. Once the test produces the expected result, toggle the scenario on and select its schedule. The trigger’s behavior and schedule should suit how quickly the team needs to see a report.
For Linear, Tally specifically describes mapping form fields into the issue title and description and placing response details in the issue body. Other destinations have different schemas, so do not assume that a field mapping from one connector will transfer unchanged to another. Tally Linear integration
Test the whole path, including what happens after delivery
A successful trigger test is not enough if the destination record is incomplete or hard to use. Inspect the created message, row, or issue and confirm that the title identifies the problem, the body contains the information needed to investigate it, and any supporting file is handled as expected. Then confirm that the team knows where new reports appear and who reviews them.

For a live Make scenario, inspect its run history and the destination itself when a report appears to be missing or malformed. Tally’s documentation describes logs and retry behavior for its direct webhook delivery; that is not a service-level guarantee for a Make scenario or for every downstream connector.
What happens under the hood
In a direct Tally webhook integration, a new form response is sent to a URL as a JSON HTTP POST. Tally’s example payload includes an event type and ID, response and form IDs, timestamps, and fields represented by labels, types, and values. Those details explain why field mapping matters: the receiving workflow needs to match the submitted data to the destination’s own structure. Tally Webhooks

Tally’s current API help states a limit of 100 requests per minute and recommends webhooks rather than polling for continuous synchronization. It also describes date-based API versioning and pagination. The request limit is an API operating limit, not a statistic about bug-report performance; check Tally’s documentation when building directly against the API because limits and version details can change. The form standardizes intake and Make moves submissions into another system. Neither step guarantees that a report is valid, assigned to an owner, distinct from an existing issue, or resolved. Those outcomes depend on the destination configuration and the team’s triage process.
