“Plex add-ons” can mean several things. Plex’s older plugin system has been phased down, and in December 2025 Plex said it planned to remove the legacy metadata-agent system from new Plex Media Server releases during 2026. That does not mean every independent app that works with Plex has stopped working: the five picks below are companion tools for distinct jobs, not five traditional Plex plugins. Check each project’s current setup instructions and compatibility before installing.
The useful question is what you want Plex to do better: show server activity, simplify requests, organize a library, create scheduled channels, or make music easier to enjoy. These tools address those separate needs; none is essential for every household.
What “Plex add-on” means now
Plex’s legacy plugins and metadata agents are different from independent companion applications. Plex announced in December 2025 that it planned to remove the legacy metadata-agent system from new Plex Media Server releases during 2026. Newer metadata providers use a separate HTTP API approach. That change concerns the old plugin and agent systems; it is not evidence that standalone tools integrating with Plex have all ceased to work. Plex forum announcement
The options here are selected by practical use rather than by a claim that they are all plugins or that everyone needs them. They are independently maintained projects, except Plexamp, which is Plex’s own companion app.

1. Tautulli: see what your server is doing
Tautulli is for the server owner who wants a clearer view of household use. It monitors server activity and can track viewing statistics, history, trends, notifications, and recently added media. That makes it useful for questions such as what is being watched and when, rather than for changing how Plex itself plays a film.
It is a separate third-party application that runs alongside Plex Media Server, so account for an additional service to install and maintain. Tautulli’s project site describes its monitoring and statistics features: tautulli.com.
2. Seerr: make discovery and requests easier
Seerr gives household members a place to discover titles and request them. Its official project describes it as an open-source request-management and discovery tool for Plex and other media servers. The current project name is Seerr; it unifies the Overseerr and Jellyseerr projects, so readers familiar with either predecessor may recognize the lineage. Seerr
Its documented integrations include Plex library scanning and connections to Radarr and Sonarr. Those automation tools are relevant to a request workflow, but Seerr is not itself a replacement for them. If you only need a simple Plex library and do not want a separate request process, it may add more complexity than value.

3. Kometa: build a more curated library
Kometa helps configure collections, overlays, playlists, and metadata presentation. Its builders can draw on Plex and external sources, giving a library owner ways to create a more deliberate browsing experience than the default organization alone.
This is the most configuration-heavy choice in the list: expect to define and maintain settings rather than install a one-click enhancement. The documentation provides local and Docker installation paths, including NAS-oriented options. Choose it when you want control over presentation and are comfortable with ongoing configuration. ErsatzTV creates custom, live-style channels from media, with scheduling and EPG/IPTV output, and can integrate with Plex. It suits viewers who want to browse a schedule and let a channel choose what plays, rather than selecting each title from the library.
That channel-surfing format is a specific preference, not a universal Plex upgrade. The project distinguishes ErsatzTV Legacy and says it will continue receiving security updates for the foreseeable future. Check the current documentation and edition before installing so you follow the instructions for the version you intend to use. ErsatzTV

5. Plexamp: give music its own listening app
Plexamp is Plex’s music player and companion app for listening to a Plex music library. Plex describes it as “A completely custom music player built for you to rediscover, curate, or completely lose yourself in the music that made you.” Plexamp and Plex plans
Separate the app’s role from its premium features when deciding whether it fits: Plex lists features including Sonic Sage, Guest DJ, and Mix Builders as Plex Pass features. Check Plex’s current plan details for the applicable terms. Plex Pass
How to decide which one to install
- Want visibility into playback and usage? Start with Tautulli.
- Want other household members to find and request titles? Consider Seerr, especially if you already use Radarr or Sonarr.
- Want custom collections and presentation, and are willing to maintain configuration? Look at Kometa.
- Want scheduled channels from your own library? Evaluate ErsatzTV and verify the edition and current setup steps.
- Want a dedicated music listening experience? Try Plexamp, checking which features require Plex Pass.
Before installing any of them, confirm the project’s current instructions and compatibility with your Plex Media Server version. These are separate software projects with different purposes and maintenance requirements, not a single bundle or a guarantee that an older plugin will work.
