For a QR code that may be resized in a printed design, start with a generator that offers vector output—then confirm that the downloaded file retains the styling and logo you chose. QRCode Monkey advertises SVG, PDF and EPS, but says its PDF and EPS exports omit custom design and logo options. Canva offers SVG and PDF exports as part of a broader design workflow, while QRPress advertises SVG and PDF output. None of those vendor descriptions is an independent print or scan test.
Which QR code generator should you choose for print?
Choose by the file you need and what must happen to the code after it is printed. If a logo or custom pattern must remain in the exported artwork, QRCode Monkey explicitly says its SVG export retains design settings; its PDF and EPS exports are plain classic codes. If you are building the surrounding flyer, menu or sign in a design tool, Canva combines QR code generation with design exports and printable products. QRPress is another option when you want browser-side generation and advertised SVG or PDF output.
These are vendor-described features, not comparative test results. The available information does not establish current prices, account requirements, plan limits, or a universal guarantee that a particular export will scan. Ask your printer which formats and settings it accepts, then test the actual file at its final printed size.
Compare the print and destination trade-offs
| Generator | Advertised output and workflow | Destination behavior | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| QRCode Monkey | Advertises PNG, SVG, PDF and EPS. Its page recommends SVG for print and says it includes design settings. | Describes its codes as static: the encoded content cannot be edited after creation. | QRCode Monkey says PDF and EPS exports are classic codes without custom design and logo settings. Its claims, including commercial-use terms, are vendor statements; check the page for the terms that apply to your use. QRCode Monkey |
| Canva | Describes exporting designs as PNG, JPG, SVG or PDF, and offers printable products. | Describes both static and dynamic codes; it says a dynamic code’s destination URL can be changed. | The feature description does not establish whether every SVG export remains vector in every design workflow, or what plan terms apply. Canva |
| QRPress | Advertises browser-side generation, SVG output and PDF at 300 dpi and true size. | Describes its codes as static. | The 300 dpi and true-size wording is QRPress’s own output specification, not independent verification of print quality. QRPress |
Choose the right export format
SVG for artwork that may be resized
SVG is a vector format, which is useful when a code needs to scale within a print layout. QRCode Monkey specifically says its SVG contains its design settings and can be used with most vector graphics software. Confirm the file opens as expected in the application used for layout; a filename extension by itself does not prove that the artwork contains the styling you need.

PDF when it fits the printer’s workflow
PDF can be convenient for handing off a finished layout, but check whether the QR artwork inside it is vector and whether the logo and styling survived export. This matters especially with QRCode Monkey: it says its PDF export is a plain classic code, not the custom design shown in the preview.
PNG or JPG for fixed-size layouts
Canva lists PNG and JPG alongside SVG and PDF. Raster image formats can work when the artwork will remain at the size and resolution prepared for the layout, but avoid enlarging them without checking the result. The vendor descriptions do not establish a universal resolution or minimum physical QR size for every printer and use case.

Static or dynamic: decide before printing
Static codes
A static code encodes its destination or other content directly. QRCode Monkey says its codes are static, and QRPress also describes its output as static. After printing, changing the destination generally means replacing the printed code, so check the encoded content carefully before ordering a run.
Dynamic codes
Canva describes dynamic QR codes whose destination URL can be changed. That can help when a printed item needs to keep pointing to a new webpage, but it makes the code dependent on the service that manages the redirect. Before using one on long-lived material, review the provider’s terms and confirm the feature will remain available under the account or plan you intend to use.

Proof the file before approving a print run
- Confirm the destination. Scan the generated code and check that it opens the exact page or content intended for the printed item.
- Export the final artwork. Use the format accepted by the printer. If the code includes a logo or custom design, inspect the exported file rather than relying on the generator preview.
- Ask the printer about specifications. Confirm the required file format, dimensions, color handling, quiet zone and bleed for that job. There is no universal minimum size or setting established here for all printers and scanning conditions.
- Make a physical proof. Print the design at its intended final size and scan it with a phone before approving a larger run. QRCode Monkey likewise recommends scanning its preview, but that advice is not a substitute for checking the final printed piece.
