Not an Anthropic-authored WordPress plugin. Claude’s connector directory lists a WordPress.com integration made by Automattic. For self-hosted WordPress, connecting Claude generally involves MCP (Model Context Protocol), a compatible adapter or server, or a third-party plugin—not the WordPress.com connector.
What does “official WordPress integration” mean here?
Claude’s directory lists a connector called WordPress.com, with Automattic named as its maker. It is an official directory integration for WordPress.com, but the listing does not describe it as a plugin authored by Anthropic. Those are different claims: a connector can appear in Claude’s directory without being made or guaranteed by Anthropic. See the WordPress.com connector listing.
“WordPress” can also mean the WordPress.org plugin directory or a site hosted independently (self-hosted WordPress). Each has a different connection route:
| Route | What it connects to | Publisher or implementation | Requirements and authentication |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress.com connector in Claude’s directory | WordPress.com sites | Automattic; uses WordPress.com’s MCP server | The listing specifies OAuth 2.1 and eligibility for paid WordPress.com plans or sites connected to Jetpack AI or Complete. Check the current listing for terms. |
| WordPress.org MCP server | WordPress.org plugin-directory resources and workflows, not an arbitrary self-hosted site | WordPress.org | Quick setup requires a WordPress.org account, an MCP-compatible client such as Claude Desktop or Claude Code, and Node.js 18 or later; setup uses npx -y @wporg/mcp. |
| Self-hosted WordPress MCP integration | A particular self-hosted WordPress site | The WordPress MCP Adapter or a selected third-party plugin/server | Authentication, client compatibility, runtime and permissions depend on the chosen implementation; check its own documentation. |
How to connect Claude to WordPress.com
The WordPress.com connector is the relevant option if your site is hosted on WordPress.com and your account meets the connector’s current eligibility terms. Its listing describes work with site content and data within the permissions you approve, including finding posts, checking stats, drafting content, updating a page and retrieving comment threads. The listing also advertises more than 60 abilities; that is a vendor-provided capability count, not an independently measured result, and it may change.

Open the WordPress.com connector listing to review availability and connect it. The listing specifies OAuth 2.1. Review the account and site permissions requested during authorization, and do not assume that every action is available for every site or account.
What does the WordPress.org MCP server do?
WordPress.org’s MCP service is for work with the WordPress.org plugin directory—not for managing an unrelated self-hosted WordPress site. Its documented uses include reading plugin guidelines, validating a plugin readme, checking submission status and preparing a submission. It assists with the workflow; it does not approve a plugin or replace the established review process.

The quick setup documented by WordPress.org requires a WordPress.org account, an MCP-compatible client and Node.js 18 or later. The command is npx -y @wporg/mcp. WordPress.org also provides manual setup instructions and client configuration details in its MCP documentation. WordPress.org says, “This is a tool to assist your workflow, not a replacement for the review process.”
How can Claude connect to a self-hosted WordPress site?
A self-hosted site is not covered by the WordPress.com connector simply because both use WordPress. A site owner can use an MCP-compatible implementation, such as the WordPress MCP Adapter, or choose a third-party plugin that provides an MCP server. MCP is a protocol through which compatible AI clients discover and invoke tools offered by a server.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe WordPress MCP Adapter bridges registered WordPress abilities to MCP tools, which clients such as Claude Desktop and Claude Code can discover and invoke. A third-party plugin may offer a different set of tools and setup requirements; plugin-directory examples are not evidence that Anthropic made or endorses those plugins. Review the selected implementation’s documentation for supported WordPress and client versions, installation steps, authentication method and available actions before connecting it.
There is no single setup command or permission model for every self-hosted integration. Choose the server or adapter first, then follow its own instructions to configure the MCP client and authorize access to the intended site. Grant only the capabilities needed for the task.

What should you check before granting access?
An MCP connection can expose the tools and data its server makes available to Claude. A connector listing is not, by itself, a security guarantee or proof of Anthropic authorship. Anthropic’s custom-connector help notes that remote MCP connectors can connect Claude to services that Anthropic has not verified. The Claude directory listing warns: “Anthropic does not control which tools developers make available and cannot verify that they will work as intended or that they won’t change.”
- Publisher: Confirm whether the connector comes from Automattic, WordPress.org, or a third-party plugin maker.
- Permissions: Read what site content and actions the connection can access, and authorize only what you need.
- Authentication and data flow: Check how the chosen integration authenticates and what information it sends or makes available to the client.
- Maintenance and compatibility: Review the plugin or server’s documentation and maintenance status, and confirm it supports your WordPress installation and MCP client.
For third-party tools, consult both the provider’s documentation and the relevant connector or plugin listing. Anthropic’s guidance on custom connectors using remote MCP explains the distinction between a connector and a service Anthropic has verified.
