HiLight is documented for Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold—not as a downloadable upgrade for older Pixels. Google’s instructions use built-in phone settings and the Contacts app; they specify no supported HiLight file to download or import. Backups and rollback are broader Android questions: Google does not specifically confirm that HiLight settings transfer, and leaving Android Beta for stable Android generally wipes local data.
Which Pixels support HiLight?
Google lists the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold as HiLight devices. The feature provides light cues while speaking with Gemini and for incoming calls from favorite contacts when the phone is face down. Google says the call feature works with Phone by Google and WhatsApp. Google Pixel Phone Help describes setup through Settings > System > HiLight, but does not provide an installer for older Pixel models. Google therefore does not document HiLight as an upgrade you can add to older hardware.
For context, Google’s August 13, 2026 announcement listed launch starting prices of $1,099 for Pixel 11 Pro, $1,299 for Pixel 11 Pro XL, and $1,899 for Pixel 11 Pro Fold, with retail availability announced for August 20, 2026. These are announcement figures, not verified current prices or stock. Google’s announcement is the source for those launch details. Google presents the same HiLight uses across all three models; its support instructions do not establish feature differences between them.
Does HiLight require a supported file or download?
No supported file type or separate feature package is specified in Google’s HiLight instructions. Compatibility is described in terms of the named phone models, system settings, Contacts, Gemini, and supported calling apps—not importing a file. Avoid unofficial downloads that claim to add HiLight to an older Pixel; Google’s documented setup offers no such route.

- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
How do you enable and customize HiLight?
- Turn on the feature: Open Settings > System > HiLight, enable it, and select “Speaking with Gemini” and/or “Calls from favorites.”
- Prepare favorite-call cues: Update the Contacts app and mark the people whose calls should trigger HiLight as favorites. The supported call experience uses Phone by Google or WhatsApp.
- Choose a contact color: In Contacts, open a favorite, select HiLight under Contact Settings, choose a color, preview it if desired, then tap Done.
There are two settings interactions to know about. First, Google Pixel Phone Help states: “If you enable flash notifications, HiLight won’t display for incoming calls.” Second, HiLight can glow by default in modes such as Flip to Shhh, Bedtime, or Do Not Disturb. Setting the relevant Calls option to None also turns off call ring or vibration notifications during that mode, so it changes more than the light cue.
Will HiLight settings transfer in a backup?
Google’s Pixel backup guidance lets you inspect which data and settings are included and restore all or selected categories during setup. On Pixel 9 and later, Google says a restore can also be done after initial setup. To review what your phone is backing up, go to Settings > Google services > Backup and open Backup details. Google’s Pixel backup instructions explain the backup and restore process.

There is no separate HiLight-only rollback described by Google. The relevant consequences depend on whether you are leaving Android Beta or manually flashing a factory image.
| Route | Data consequence | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Opt out of Android Beta and install the latest stable public update | Generally wipes locally stored device data | Google’s Android Beta Program documents a limited no-wipe window after installing the stable release corresponding to the beta, but only until you install another beta update. |
| Manually flash a factory image | Requires a full device reset | Android Developers warns that flashing resets the device; beta-to-production and production-to-beta transitions also require resetting user data. |
Google’s Android Beta Program warns: “You will not be able to unenroll and revert back to a stable public version of Android without first wiping all locally saved data on your device.” Read the current Android Beta Program instructions before opting out. For manual flashing, consult Android Developers’ factory image guidance. Neither route should be treated as a data-preserving way to undo HiLight.
