Start by checking that your phone and the exact car or stereo support the connection mode you’re trying to use. For USB problems, check charging, the cable and ports before changing settings. For wireless problems, confirm wireless compatibility and keep Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location Services on during setup. Do all checks while parked with the infotainment system on.
Check Android Auto compatibility first
A USB port does not necessarily support Android Auto. The car or aftermarket stereo must be compatible, and support can vary by vehicle model and connection mode. Check your car maker’s compatibility information for your exact model or ask the manufacturer or dealer. Google’s Android Auto setup guidance also explains how to connect a phone.
| Connection mode | Google’s listed requirements |
|---|---|
| Wired USB | Android 9.0 or higher, an active data plan, a compatible car or stereo, and a high-quality USB cable. Source: Google Android Auto help. |
| Wireless projection | A compatible phone with Android 11 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, plus a compatible car or stereo. Source: Google’s Android Auto requirements. |
Android Auto is integrated into supported phones, so most users do not need to install a separate Android Auto app. Requirements and compatibility can change; check Google’s current guidance and your vehicle maker’s information if your setup does not match these listed conditions.
Fix a wired USB connection
Work through the physical connection before trying software changes. Keep the car parked, turn on the infotainment system, connect the phone to the car’s USB port and follow prompts on both screens.

- Ultra-Compact & Flush-Fit – Clean Look, No Clutter Teeran Android Auto & CarPlay wireless adapter comes in a compact, space-saving design, about the size of a U.S. dollar coin, helping keep your car interior neat and clutter-free. The tapered design plugs in tightly and sits flush with the USB port. Once installed, the device is nearly invisible—no dangling wires, no bulky clutter, no loose connections. Includes both USB-A and USB-C extension cables to fit hidden or angled ports in different car layouts.
- Smarter & Safer – Built for Real-World Driving Designed to handle everyday use, this Android CarPlay adapter offers efficient heat dissipation vents and is certified to operate between -20°C to 70°C. Built-in protection helps prevent overheating, short circuits, and voltage surges—reducing concerns about performance or safety on long summer drives. Tested for vibration resistance to support stable performance on bumpy roads.
- See whether the phone charges. If it does not, check the phone port, car USB port and cable for lint, debris, damage or a loose connection. Do not force a connector into either port. Guidance for connection dropouts is available in Google’s connection troubleshooting thread.
- Try a different data cable. Use the cable supplied with the phone or another known-good, high-quality cable that supports data and fits both the phone and car port. Android Auto team cable guidance recommends a cable shorter than 3 feet (1 meter), and avoiding USB hubs and extensions. For an independent cable, it suggests checking USB-IF certification; see the cable guidance.
- Check the car’s Android Auto setting. Confirm Android Auto is enabled in the infotainment settings. Restart the infotainment system, then reconnect and follow any prompts. Menu names and steps vary by vehicle.
- Check receiver firmware if you have an aftermarket stereo. Look for updates and connection instructions on the receiver maker’s support site. Use its model-specific guidance rather than installing firmware intended for another receiver.
- If this is a second car, clear the previous-car connection. Unplug the phone, forget previously connected cars in Android Auto settings, then reconnect. The menu wording varies by phone.
A replacement cable is a reasonable test when a wired connection fails, but it cannot address a wireless-only pairing problem and is not a guaranteed fix.
Fix a wireless pairing problem
Wireless Android Auto requires support from both the phone and the car or stereo. Before pairing, park the car and turn on its infotainment system. Keep Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location Services enabled on the phone during initial setup.

- Compatible with wired-only Android Auto systems
- Requires Android 11+
- Multifunctional button for easy phone pairing and switching
- Connects unlimited phones, perfect for road trips
- Plug & play setup, no tech skills needed
- Start the car’s Bluetooth pairing process and follow the prompts on the phone and infotainment display.
- Allow the phone and car to pair. Google says Android Auto should start within a few seconds after pairing, but you may need to accept additional prompts or tap Android Auto on the car display.
- If Android Auto does not start, verify that the exact vehicle supports wireless projection and that the phone meets the wireless requirements listed above. A car that supports wired Android Auto may not support wireless use.
Google’s setup steps are available at Android Auto Help. If the vehicle’s Bluetooth flow or display differs, follow its manufacturer’s instructions.
Work out whether the phone or vehicle is the likely source
Notice whether the failure follows the phone or occurs only with one car. A phone that fails across compatible cars points toward checking the phone’s connection, requirements and settings; a problem limited to one vehicle points toward its USB port, infotainment settings, compatibility or receiver firmware. This comparison can narrow the next step, but it does not identify a damaged component by itself.

- Important Compatibility Check - PLEASE READ: This adapter is ONLY compatible with cars equipped with Factory Wired CarPlay or Android Auto (Model Years 2016-2025). ❌ NOT compatible with BMW, Tesla, or vehicles without a wired system. For Android Users: Requires a phone running Android 11 or later with "Wireless Android Auto" enabled. Includes USB-A to USB-C adapter for wider port compatibility.
- USB only: Focus on cable data capability and condition, charging behavior, and the phone and car ports.
- Wireless only: Focus on wireless compatibility, Bluetooth pairing, Wi-Fi and Location Services.
- One vehicle only: Confirm that vehicle’s exact model and connection mode are supported, then consult the car maker or aftermarket receiver manufacturer.
When to contact the manufacturer
If the checks above do not resolve the problem, ask the car maker or dealer to confirm compatibility and vehicle-specific setup. For an aftermarket head unit, contact its manufacturer about connection settings and firmware. Without the phone, vehicle and receiver models, a specific port diagnosis or repair recommendation cannot be established.
