Does Dacast Support 24/7 YouTube Streaming Without OBS?

Dacast can send an encoder-fed live channel to YouTube and offers browser Go Live, but its published documentation does not confirm unattended 24/7 prerecorded streaming without an active source.

Not as a documented, unattended 24/7 prerecorded-video workflow. Dacast documents sending an encoder-based live channel to YouTube through Simulcast, and separately offers a browser-based Go Live option that does not require OBS or installed software. Its published materials do not establish that either option can loop prerecorded video to YouTube continuously without an active source.

What Dacast documents

Dacast describes two relevant ways to broadcast: Simulcast from an encoder-fed live channel, and browser-based Go Live. They address different source setups; neither should be assumed to provide the specific unattended prerecorded loop in the question.

Simulcast: an encoder supplies the live channel

Dacast’s Simulcast feature supports YouTube and other listed social destinations, as well as custom RTMP destinations. Its documented setup starts with a Dacast live channel receiving an encoder feed; you then add YouTube as a destination and start the broadcast. Dacast lists OBS, Wirecast, vMix, and compatible RTMP encoders for this workflow. Dacast’s YouTube streaming guide and multistreaming overview describe this route.

  1. Create a live channel in Dacast and connect a supported encoder to it.
  2. In the channel’s Engagement tab, add YouTube as a Simulcast destination and configure the destination details.
  3. Start the encoder feed and broadcast to the configured destinations.

Dacast says it distributes the incoming feed to selected destinations, so Simulcast does not require additional broadcaster upload bandwidth for each destination. That does not remove the need for a live encoder feed in the documented setup.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0

Browser Go Live: no OBS, but a camera-based workflow

Dacast also advertises browser Go Live without an encoder or software installation. Its description is a camera-based broadcast started in the browser. It does not say that the browser can play a prerecorded playlist unattended, remain live around the clock without an active session, or recover automatically after a source stops. See Dacast’s streaming platform page.

Why that does not confirm a 24/7 prerecorded stream

The key distinction is between distributing an active encoder feed and rebroadcasting stored video. Dacast’s developer documentation describes Simulcast as restreaming an encoder live channel to YouTube, Twitch, or another RTMP ingest, and excludes VOD Rebroadcast from that documented Simulcast path. This boundary does not prove that no other integration exists; it means the published route does not establish that Dacast VOD can feed YouTube continuously through Simulcast. Dacast’s VOD Rebroadcast documentation and live streaming developer documentation distinguish these paths.

So, if “without OBS” means using another encoder, Dacast documents Simulcast to YouTube with compatible encoders. If it means no OBS, no other active encoder or browser source, and a prerecorded video looping unattended 24/7, the available Dacast documentation does not confirm that workflow. Ask Dacast support to verify whether a currently supported integration meets those exact requirements before relying on it.
