To get started with Streamlabs Talk Studio, open it in a supported browser, sign in or create a Streamlabs account, allow camera and microphone access, then choose whether to go live or record. Before inviting guests, confirm your own audio and video work; guests’ microphones are not heard until they are moved into the stream.
Before you open Talk Studio
Talk Studio is a browser-based streaming and recording platform; Streamlabs says it does not require an installation. Its getting-started guide, last updated October 1, 2025, recommends Google Chrome or Safari and a stable internet connection, preferably Ethernet. These are vendor recommendations, not guarantees of performance.
| Output resolution | Upload speed Streamlabs lists as required | Upload speed Streamlabs recommends |
|---|---|---|
| 720p | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p | 10 Mbps | 20 Mbps |
These figures come from Streamlabs’ setup guidance. Check your connection’s upload speed before a session, and leave room for other people or devices sharing the network.
Sign in and enter the studio
- Open Streamlabs Talk Studio.
- Sign in with an existing Streamlabs account. If you are new, create a Streamlabs ID, verify your email, and continue into Talk Studio.
- If you are an Ultra subscriber, Streamlabs’ login guidance says to use your Streamlabs ID unless Support tells you otherwise. Available sign-in choices may change; consult the Streamlabs login guide if your usual method is unclear.
Set up your camera and microphone
- When your browser asks for camera and microphone access, choose Allow.
- If no permission prompt appears, open the browser’s site controls for Talk Studio, allow camera and microphone access there, then refresh the page if needed.
- In the studio, select the camera and microphone you intend to use. Check that your video appears and that the audio meter or preview responds when you speak.
- If you have more than one input device, verify the selected microphone rather than assuming the computer’s default is the one you want. Streamlabs does not require a particular microphone model.
Do this check before adding guests. It is easier to correct a muted or incorrect input while you are still setting up than after you start broadcasting.

Choose between going live and recording
To broadcast
Add or select the destinations where you want to stream. Enter the stream title, description, and any relevant platform category, then select Go Live when you are ready. Confirm the destination and studio preview before starting, since this is the point at which your audience can see the session.
To record without broadcasting
In the studio, open Settings > Output and enable Cloud Recording, Local Recording, or both before starting. Use the recording controls to begin a recording-only session; you do not need to start a live broadcast just to capture a session.

Pick a recording type based on your edit
| Mode | What it produces | Useful when | Limit to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloud Recording | A complete recording and an audio-only downloadable file | You want a finished session file without separate participant tracks | Download important files before the applicable storage retention period expires |
| Local Recording | Separate audio/video tracks for each participant | You expect to adjust speakers independently in post-production | Streamlabs says local recording is not supported on mobile devices |
The official guides describe these output differences but do not establish that one mode has better quality or reliability than the other. The recording guide lists maximum session lengths of 4 hours on Standard and 10 hours on Pro; plan availability and limits can change, so check the current plan information in Talk Studio if your session may run long.
Invite guests and bring them on screen
- Select Add Guest to copy an invitation link or send an invitation by email.
- Guests who join appear in a queue. Select Show on stream to move a guest into the editor and include them in the live layout.
- Ask each guest to check their camera and microphone before you begin. A guest can join the session without being audible to the audience until they are moved onto the stream.
Streamlabs’ Talk Studio guide specifically warns that a guest’s microphone is not heard until the guest is moved to Show on stream. If you are working with a cohost, invite them through the Team section; the guide says a cohost can manage guests, design elements, layouts, intro/outro video, and configuration.

- For a broadcast, select End Stream when you are finished.
- For a recording-only session, select Stop Recording.
- If you are streaming and recording together, ending the stream also ends the paired recording.
- Download recordings you need before their storage period expires. Check the applicable plan and retention details in Talk Studio rather than assuming files remain available indefinitely.
Troubleshoot common first-session problems
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Camera or microphone is missing | The browser permission was denied, or the wrong input is selected | Use the browser’s site controls to allow access, refresh Talk Studio, and select the intended device in the studio. |
| You cannot hear a guest | The guest is still in the queue rather than on the stream | Move the guest into the editor with Show on stream, then check their audio again. |
| Video or audio is unstable | The connection may not meet the vendor’s upload guidance or may be shared | Use a stable connection, preferably Ethernet, and compare your upload speed with Streamlabs’ resolution guidance above. |
| You cannot find a recording after the session | The recording option may not have been enabled, or the file may be subject to retention limits | Enable Cloud Recording or Local Recording under Settings > Output before recording, then download files you need in time. |
Or let it run in the cloud
Talk Studio is for browser-based sessions you host; if instead you want a prerecorded video to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home: StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, not a live camera. It streams the file as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
