How to Calculate YouTube Membership Revenue for a 24/7 Stream

Estimate membership revenue for a 24/7 YouTube stream from the memberships and revenue recognized during the period—not from the number of hours the stream runs. YouTube’s published creator share is 70% of membership revenue after applicable taxes and fees are deducted. Use the channel’s actual membership revenue in YouTube Studio, then reconcile the estimate with finalized earnings in AdSense for YouTube.

The membership revenue formula

Estimated creator membership revenue = recognized membership revenue × 0.70. YouTube documents a 70% creator share after applicable taxes and fees are deducted. It also says it currently covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees. The Commerce Product Module overview describes the share as 70% of net revenues from channel memberships. Because deductions, adjustments, individual agreements, and channel circumstances can affect the result, treat this as an estimate, not a guaranteed payout. The 70% is not necessarily 70% of the price a member sees. Applicable taxes and other deductions come out before the share is applied, and the amount recognized can also be affected by refunds and timing.

A simplified example

Suppose a channel has 100 memberships at a hypothetical monthly price of $4.99 each. The simple pre-deduction total is $499; 70% of that simplified base is $349.30. This illustrates the arithmetic only. It is not a quoted YouTube membership price or a payout promise: recognized revenue, applicable deductions, local pricing, refunds, and timing may change the result.

Why stream hours do not multiply membership revenue

Channel memberships are recurring monthly payments in exchange for perks. A stream running 24/7 does not earn a separate hourly membership rate, so do not multiply the monthly estimate by 24 hours or by the number of days streamed. Longer or more frequent streaming may affect exposure and member acquisition, but YouTube’s reviewed documentation gives no formula that converts stream hours into membership revenue. How to find the numbers in YouTube Studio

  1. Choose the period. In YouTube Studio, open Analytics → Revenue and set the date range you want to estimate. Keep the same date range when comparing periods.
  2. Review membership revenue. Select How you make money → Memberships for a more detailed membership revenue breakdown. Set the desired dates and, where relevant, a video-format filter.
  3. Check transaction and member trends. The Transactions Revenue card shows the number of transactions for the selected period. Use the Memberships tab and Analytics → Audience → Total Member to review membership information and gained, canceled, and lost member trends.
  4. Estimate the creator share. Use the membership revenue recognized for the period as the base, account for applicable deductions and adjustments, and apply the 70% share as an estimate. If forecasting from tiers instead, use actual active paying member counts and the applicable tier prices for that period; do not assume every member pays the same amount.
  5. Reconcile after finalization. Treat Studio revenue as estimated. Check finalized earnings in AdSense for YouTube, where the amount may differ; refunds can reduce the creator’s share.

What can change the estimate

  • Member and tier mix: use the actual active paying members and their tier mix for the period, rather than a channel-wide subscriber count or an assumed uniform price.
  • Taxes, fees, and local pricing: the displayed consumer price is not automatically the recognized revenue base. Applicable deductions and local pricing affect the amount to which the share applies.
  • Refunds and reporting status: Studio figures are estimates; refunds and other adjustments may affect the finalized amount shown in AdSense for YouTube.
  • Eligibility and channel terms: membership eligibility, local pricing, and the creator’s agreement can affect what applies. Check the channel’s current Studio account and terms; the published general share alone cannot establish a particular channel’s payout.

YouTube says creators may have tax obligations on YouTube income. Keep records of estimated Studio revenue and finalized earnings for your own reporting needs, and consult an appropriate tax professional about obligations that apply to you. YouTube Help: channel memberships

Keep the 24/7 stream running separately from the revenue calculation

Stream duration does not change the membership formula, but keeping prerecorded video live around the clock may be an operational choice for creators who want consistent exposure. If you run a 24/7 stream, ensure the video and any music or other material are rights-cleared; a continuous stream does not exempt a channel from YouTube’s copyright rules or other channel policies.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live 24/7. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free day.
