Run your Google search, wait until the image or video result you want is visible, then capture the screen. Use your device’s normal screenshot control when the result fits in the viewport; use Chrome DevTools when you need to capture a selected area or a longer page. Google’s result layout varies by query and context, so check the saved image rather than assuming a feature will appear.
Capture the visible image or video result
- Open Google Search and enter the exact query you want to document.
- Wait for the page to finish rendering, then confirm the image or video box, carousel, or other relevant result is actually visible. Google says these features appear only for some searches; see Google’s policies for image and video boxes.
- Use your computer, phone, or tablet’s standard screenshot control to capture the current screen. The shortcut depends on the device and operating system, so use its built-in screenshot instructions rather than assuming one key combination works everywhere.
- Open the saved image and confirm it includes the query, the result feature, and enough surrounding page context to make the image understandable.
This method is simplest when the relevant result fits on screen. Google Search can show different visual elements, and available filters or tools may vary with the query, result type, language, and sign-in context; see Google’s guide to narrowing search results with filters and the Search Central visual elements gallery.
Capture an area or the whole results page in Chrome
Chrome DevTools offers screenshot actions for selected areas, and Chrome’s DevTools documentation also confirms full-page screenshot support. The exact menu labels can differ by Chrome version.
- Open the Google results page in Chrome, then open DevTools.
- Focus DevTools and open the Command Menu: press
Ctrl+Shift+Pon Windows or Linux, orCommand+Shift+Pon macOS. - Type
screenshotand choose the capture action that matches your need. For a selected portion, Chrome documents Capture area screenshot. For a full page, choose the full-page option offered by your installed version. If the label differs, search the Command Menu for “screenshot.” See Chrome’s Command Menu documentation and the DevTools release notes confirming full-page capture support. - Save the file and inspect it at normal size. Check that it includes the query and target image or video module, and that the page length did not leave out relevant content.
For repeatable command-line captures
Chrome Headless documents a --screenshot option and window sizing for command-line workflows. Its documented sizing controls the viewport; do not assume that this alone captures the entire document. See Chrome Headless command-line reference.

Preserve context so the screenshot is useful
Keep the original image unedited. Alongside it, record the exact query, capture date and time, browser and device, viewport or display dimensions, and context that could affect results, such as location or whether you were signed in. If you later crop or annotate a copy, keep it distinct from the original. A screenshot records the rendered view at capture time; by itself, it does not establish what every other user saw.
Understand layout and permission limits
Google’s image and video boxes or carousels may appear alongside other web results, but their appearance is conditional. Google’s Search Help also explains that available result types and tools vary, while Search Central documents the range of visual elements that may be shown. Capture the live page instead of assuming a particular query always produces the same layout.

For use of Search screenshots, Google’s Brand Resource Center says users are responsible for obtaining approvals from third-party content owners. It states that Google permission is not needed for Search-page or result screenshots printed for educational or instructional purposes, and its guidance says, “Don’t modify the interface.” That limited statement should not be treated as blanket permission for every medium, commercial use, jurisdiction, or image and video item shown. Read Google’s Search Guidelines and assess rights for the specific content and use.
Choose the capture method that fits the record
| Need | Suitable method | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Capture what is currently visible | Device screenshot control | Quick, but captures only the current screen. |
| Capture one part of the page | Chrome DevTools area screenshot | Lets you select a region, but requires opening DevTools. |
| Capture a long results page | Chrome DevTools full-page screenshot action | Useful for the whole document; inspect the saved file for omissions and legibility. |
| Repeat a technical capture workflow | Chrome Headless --screenshot |
Automatable; the documented viewport sizing is not a promise of full-document capture. |
Troubleshooting
The image or video module is missing
The feature may not appear for that query or context. Confirm the query and page have finished loading; if the module remains absent, record the page as displayed rather than treating its appearance as guaranteed.

The screenshot cuts off the result or page
For a result that does not fit in the visible screen, use DevTools and select the area or full-page capture action available in your Chrome version. Inspect the image at normal size to verify the target module and surrounding context are present.
The DevTools command label is different
Open the Command Menu and search for screenshot. Choose the closest available capture action; menu labels can vary between installed versions.

ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF from one API request. Its capture options include full-page shots with lazy images loaded and selection by CSS selector. Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before capture; those steps can each be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents.
